100 Candleholders draws inspiration from JB’s 1981 exhibition 100 Plates Plus, where he playfully expanded a prolific form. Here, each artist brings a distinct approach to material, process, and the interplay between aesthetics and function. 100 Candleholders is on view at Blunk Space through March 28. — "It is a coil pot made with love." Kori Girard Untitled, 2025 Ceramic 14 1/2 x 5 x 5 inches (36.8 x 12.7 x 12.7 cm) @a_kori_girard "This image goes back to the first time I photographed JB Blunk's home for my book Handcrafted Modern in 2009. Although it is right next to the kitchen sink, it felt like an altar, with candles and personal objects on the wall, like the mask that was a gift from Isamu Noguchi..." Leslie Williamson Kitchen Candles, Blunk House, 2008/2009 Photographic C-Print from C-41 film 10 x 8 x 1 inches (25.4 x 20.3 x 2.5 cm) @lesliewilliamson "These are a pair of thin reflective discs that hold water in precise equilibrium, recalling alpine tarns where water self-levels in stone basins. The pair act as binary stars, an unmatched set in which the water meniscus surrounds the flame at different intervals to offer radiating points of reflection." Lily Clark Wetting Candle, 2025 Powder coated aluminum 1/2 x 6 x 6 inches (1.3 x 15.2 x 15.2 cm) @lilyyill "In traditional Japanese house- and temple-building, the term Ishibadate (trans. "Pillar Standing on a Stone") refers to the process of scribing wooden pillars directly onto existing or natural stone bases. Here, the reverse is true..." Lindsey Muscato & Joshua Friedman Pillar Standing on a Stone (Ishibadate), 2025 Granite, Eucalyptus 8 3/4 x 13 1/2 x 8 inches (22.2 x 34.3 x 20.3 cm) @base10.works "I’m very inspired by the California Buckeye trees in Northern California—their octopus limbs coated with shag-carpeted moss and lichen. The textures, the greens, the plushness of so many types of mosses, lichens, fungus, and algae – it’s a whole community, a world, a rave." This turned out to be a bigger bite than I expected. Coastal Live Oak is a tough wood but also enjoyable. Project for @marta.losangeles . More to come later. Dimensions: 406mm x 406mm x 914mm x 113kg (16” x 16” x 36” x 250lb.)

In order to accommodate irregular shape of the door we made these custom brass pivot hinges so the door can open horizontally.

I just picked up this anahiki-nokogiri, a type of Japanese hand saw, in order to saw the two halves of this maple tree trunk apart. This particular saw has a sort of combination style teeth which means it can cut across the wood grain or along the grain. I this case I am cutting along the grain. I choose this saw because of length which it helps cut straight and also because of its curved blade which helps to cut irregular surfaces.
