“Formally inspired by the architecture of temples, the shapes of suns and stars.  This Aluminum series combines the visual language of industrial process with historic icons and patterns. The extrusion process seamlessly intersects a plane creating a void to peer into; the result: a homogenous hollow form. This visual considers volume in a physical and spiritual way.” —Asher Gillman Asher’s chair is spiky, designed to pop all the inflated, bubbly furniture that he so dislikes. The hard, sharp, angular edges of this chair are in stark contrast to the rounded and smooth forms that characterize much of today’s contemporary furniture. If you are not intimidated by the spikes and dare to sit, you are confronted by a chair that denies easy sitting. It is a chair with its own set of rules that we must contend with. The legs of the chair are intentionally elongated, causing the sitter’s legs to dangle. The seat juts upward in the middle, splitting it into two opposing concave forms that push the sitter’s buttocks apart, while the backrest forces you to lean forward. Maybe that’s why people started to try other forms of sitting. Asher’s chair is a chair with personality, one that plays with our expectations of what a chair should be. It is a chair with greater concerns than the constraints of functionality and comfort. —Joseph Dieppa Asher Gillman @eeba.studio Temple Chair 2 Aluminum 26 in x 24 in x 41 in AVAILABLE Please direct all inquiries to [email protected]

‘From the Upper Valley in the Foothills’ is opening this Saturday @marta.losangeles 4-7pm! Thank you to our dear friends @marta.losangeles @vince.skelly & @angelcitylumber for facilitating this great show. Leftover Chair Cast aluminum, Aleppo pine Ultimately I wanted to capture the visual results of what is leftover after a very sudden reaction. The Fires tore through California leaving metal cars as puddles and singed scrap. Trees were turned to blackened sticks and people were displaced. This chair is an imprint of nature’s force. It doesn’t reference the violence or traumas of fire but the ability natural materials have to be resilient against the chaos that constantly threatens them. The forms used to cast the chair were carved from blocks of wood spared by the fires although downed by the winds, they have been carved into simple forms referencing motifs of my home that I keep close to me. Pouring aluminum into these hollows imprints the uncertainty of the green wood. I truly do not know what the surface will show. Setting the finish from next to the blocks that yielded is very important to me; telling the story of many actors and their different stories.   Thank you to the wonderful @erik.benjamins for the photos & @wormgirlusa for video artists- Dan John Anderson @danjohnanderson Ryan Belli @r.o.belli Noah Cohen @noah_customla Nik Gelormino @nik_gelormino Asher Gillman @eeba.studio Brian Guido of Barni Goudi @barni.goudi Max Hertz @maxhertzstudio Sam Klemick @samklemick Tristan Louis Marsh @tristanlouismarsh Doug McCollough (@dougmccollough Mark Morones (@vodka_root__beer Lindsey Muscato & Joshua Friedman of Base 10 (@base10.works Christopher Norman (@christophernormanprojects Dave O’Brien (@hawkandstone Shin Okuda & Kristin Dickson-Okuda (@wakawakainc & @ikoikospace Vincent Pocsik (@vincentpocsik Ellie Richards (@ellierichardsstudio Josué da Silva (@silva.ware Vince Skelly (@vince.skelly Rachel Shillander (@la.lland Jonathan Snyder & Alejandro DePass (@snyderdepass Marley White (@marley__white

Asher Gillman Old New Snake Aluminum, technology, Chat GPT, rattlesnake tail
8” x 8” x 3” 2025 SOLD

“The casework of ‘Old New Snake’ is loosely inspired by the brutal simplicity of the Old New Synagogue in Prague— a place my mother speaks highly of. I use this reverence for things I don’t fully understand as a way to connect with ideas I don’t feel entirely bound to— yet I obsess over. The alarm clock or kitchen timer is a mundane object, which made it a perfect vessel to house the rattle, something I see as spiritual and soul-filled. Its ability to make noise fulfilled the final component ringing out like a bell on a steeple. The object is the result of a combination of old structures, relics and thoughts with technology and modern life. It serves as a personal excuse to explore and manifest my understanding of the complexities between old and new. Thank you to @eli.a.silver for collaborating with me to make this possible. —Asher Gillman
