A splendid month of music beckons. We kick May off in style, with a melting pot of tastes and selections on cue. We welcome Sudan-born, Berlin-based Moe @moe.elamin , bringing that Endless Groove energy to ours while on tour, followed by Syndicate honcho Kiat @kiat_sg , who takes to the controls for a belter. Debuts from Revision’s Halia @mountntrash and Seoul’s celebrated selector Kugel @kugel____ keep it dicey, anchored by living room regulars Belle @_gthb_ and Keith @dj_kfc , the latter with a rare vinyl outing here. From Down Under, James Keys @chimpkeys reps Hopkins Creek + Wax Nomad via Jim’s Paradise, as we welcome back Suffyan @s_____ffyan , Nic @pic_niks , and Leland @lelnd to wrap it up good. May the music find you at ours always, we’ll see you in the dim lights.

This is not an April Fools joke — all cocktails at Bar Bon Funk are now $24. After over a year of settling into the neighbourhood, we’ve thought about what it could take to make the space livelier; weekday nights filled with a comfort to return to and weekends with a whole lot of fun. Starting 1 April, we hope to see you guys around more often!

A little mischief and a lot of fun — that’s what you’ll learn when you’re seated at the bar. Our team will probably agree that making cocktails is only a part of the job. They look forward to long nights in good cheer, spontaneous conversations, and clinks to celebrations. The living room sparkles, when everyone is grooving in sync.

Salutations to the genius who added olives to martinis a century ago. Dirty martinis have been in style for a while, but ours would contest all the ones you’ve had before. Koji fermented tomatoes join olive brine in the mix, added to a gin built on Sicilian lemon and Damask rose. A juicy Cerignola olive sits atop the marvellous drink, piped with gorgonzola cheese smoked over wood and thyme.

Much like our record collection here, the music that flows through our speakers — from our playlists to the DJs on Night Voices — is wide and diverse. There’s a different colour to each evening, from Indonesian funk to Japanese psychedelic, 90s Disco to dance oddities, we love that sweet spot where drinks, plates, and tunes are all in harmony. Tip one, the bar counter’s our pick for all night listening, with seats snagged up quick. Tip two, have a gander at our monthly lineup and make your reservations count. Tip three, have a tipple, and we’ll see you front centre.

Small but mighty, our tuna tarts have a whole lot to give. The freshest tuna from the coast of Ehime is diced and mixed with horseradish aioli for a kick of spice. Set in a crust of Feuilles de Brick – this thin, buttery pastry gives it a satisfying crunch, sending nods across the room. “One tuna tart each, please.” An opener of conversations, a great start to the night.

You may have noticed some changes to our menu of late. We’ve made the conscientious decision to have all our drinks at $24, because we believe any night can be your night. We’re still serving our signature drinks as we have always done, with top-notch quality. Let us be that neighbourhood spot for your easy evenings and nightcaps, with fun and funk all around. See you in our living room!

Lights dimmed, April’s musical chairs await. We’re assembling the best of potions for a spellbinding lineup here at the Bar. Brazil-Indonesia’s Luma @lumamusic_ starts the month in big style, while old friend Freddy @freddygardens returns, this time solo-repping @protoexotica . A trio of debuts brings much excitement; Kin Leonn @kinleonn pulls through with deep listens, Loyboy @l0yb0y turns any floor into a dance, while Barcelona-based Roberto Seña @rsenagram debuts his Inner Quiet magic at ours. Warm regular Jasm @jjasmm returns, but this time on the decks! Sweethearts Eka & Naida @ekaprima @naidams take the helm once more, while Zai @z4idj and Leland @lelnd crank up the funk. Follow the magic and stay close always.

Four freshly minted Living Room tapes have arrived, with esteemed quality flowing throughout. Afiq @vinylheavy serves a blend of gems on vinyl, traversing Thai Molam to Asian psychedelic and more. New York/Singapore’s Marco Weibel @marcoweibel guides a bustling Saturday evening – that was a party with friends aplenty. Hong Kong native Ray Kong @raylmkong is no stranger to the room, leading with a menu of jazz and funk plates, hip-hop sides, and dance desserts to end. Finally, @hillsandeuropa ’s DJ Junmo @thats_momo transports us to a merry evening in Seoul, an energetic, dopamine-filled 3-hour set from our South Korean guest shift night in January. Relive the magic once more in our archives, or step in on Wednesdays and Saturdays to catch it live and direct. Listen on our Soundcloud, link in bio.

Sometimes, all we need is a friend behind the bar. Colin’s been here since the beginning, shaking up not only drinks, but the conversations that flow along with the night. When our living room comes to life from 6, you’ll catch Colin grooving along to his favourite Hip-hop or R&B tunes, like this good ol’ number from the late Nujabes. His fantastic memory serves him and his guests well – not a face passes his sight without a firm handshake or a smile, for he will remember the best moments every night. Count on Colin for a tasty Sidecar, for those who ask.

Coop & Spud might taste a little familiar. We reminisced over weekends spent with family, stopping by Kenny Rogers for roast chicken, gravy, and mashed potatoes. In its heyday, nothing tops that comfort. We start with pineapple-macerated rum and a touch of fino sherry, layered with a consommé from roasted chicken bones, wild mushrooms and our own fried chicken. Finished off with a mashed potato foam made with kombu dashi. It sounds a little bizarre, but that’s what it is – chicken and mash, served in a cosy ceramic vessel.

We flip the page to March’s muses, with sounds up their sleeves for some seriously jolly affairs. The long overdue return of UK-based producer yingtuitive and classy soul Matty kicks off March in style. Followed by our friends Daryl, John T, and Kins, from celebrated music joints Offtrack, Santai, and Naga House, taking to the console for a shimmy. We welcome DJ Fang of New York/London’s Fortune Signal for his first rodeo in town, fresh off his Asian tour. Also, the debut of Sam’s Grooves of Nanyang – an excursion through forgotten gems, with Itch and Leland rounding the month in wax. We’re also headed to India for our triple stop guest shifts, bringing the sips and tunes with us. See you on the road, in our Living Room, or both. *Update: due to unforeseen circumstances, @z4idj will be playing instead of Grooves of Nanyang on 25 March. @ying.dreaming @mattywainwright @darylknows @sideo @_kinsssss @chinesebradpitt @fortunesignal @lelnd @groovesofnanyang @sam_cheong.k @itch_sg
