(discovered in 1787 by James Hutton at Siccar Point, Berwickshire, Scotland) This concept serves as a powerful metaphor for cultural loss: the ways in which histories can be fragmented, obscured or deliberately erased.

‘In Conversation: James Geurts and Dr. Aaron Gronstal’ 11.5.26 from 14.00 until 15.00 Hawthorne Lecture Theatre Royal Scottish Academy Edinburgh ‘Please join James Geurts, an invited artist for the curated element ‘IN TIME’ for the RSA 200 Annual, in conversation with Dr Aaron Gronstal, astrobiologist and science communicator with NASA’s Astrobiology Program. James and Aaron share a remarkable overlap in research of geology and life origins from distinct perspectives. Both have worked at the Flinders Ranges of South Australia, among the oldest deserts in the world, and both have studied Ediacaran fossils. Join them for what promises to be a uniquely valuable exchange between art and science. IN TIME This significant year for the RSA also marks the tricentenary of the birth of James Hutton (1726-1797), ‘the father of modern geology’. Reflecting on our philosophical and physical foundations (with the building constructed on ancient volcanic rock), Annie Cattrell’s curation will explore the RSA’s rich layered development over time.’ RSA website Please see the link to tickets in my Linktree. As convenor, this year, for the @royal_scottish_academy Annual I have invited artists Sam Ainsley, Martin Creed, James Geurts, Cathie Pilkington and Stephen Shrynka to take part in this bicentennial exhibition. They will be showing alongside Royal Scottish Academicians’ and those who have been selected from the Open submission. Hope to see you at the ‘in conversation’ and also in the galleries to see the exhibition! @james.geurts @ainsleysam #martincreed @cathiepilkington @stephenskrynka #art #science #edinburgh #nasa

‘Transformation’ (I &II) 2016 In preparation for a current project, I have been reflecting on two digital time/space sculptures (images I &2) I made with the help of dance artists Andrea Buckley and Charlie Morrissey @charliemorrissey (image 3). In 2016, we travelled to Rome to see and film the ‘Apollo and Daphne’ sculpture by Bernini. I have always been fascinated by this sculpture since visiting in 2000 while Ace Helen Chadwick Fellow based @britishschoolatrome . Later, in the gardens of the Villa Borghese, Andrea and Charlie improvised their response to this controversial sculpture. Back in the UK we went to Southampton University to work in their motion capture centre. Andrea and Charlie wore motion capture suits which digitally captured their improvised movement in time and space. Special thanks to Frances Scott, Marius Kwint and Marina Wallace who all contributed greatly in many ways. Supported by the Henry Moore Foundation. #roma #scuplture #drawing #dance #bernini

Angus Miller @geowalks.scot holding a print of one of the ‘lost drawings’ by John Clerk of Eldin at Glen Tilt this weekend. These drawings were originally produced to illustrate James Hutton’s ‘The Theory of the Earth’. They were never included in this publication because they were considered lost. Thankfully, they were found last century and copies can be bought from Angus Miller. All proceeds go towards the Hutton tricentenary celebrations and the upkeep of a new monument/landmark at Siccar Point. This is due to be completed by 3.6.26 which is generally considered to be Hutton’s birthday. ‘…no vestige of a beginning, no prospect of an end’ J.H. The last film shows snow falling that evening outside Glen Tilt Lodge. #drawing #diagram #geology #deeptime #water

International Women’s Day 2026. I have thought of many women and girls I would have liked to have posted about yesterday on #internationalwomensday . Far too many to even begin to celebrate and acknowledge. Hence the tardiness of this post. However, in the spirit of ‘why limit ourselves as women and the majority of the world’s population’ …to only one day of celebration a year….. I have chosen @giselepelicotofficiel as a beacon of fortitude, bravery and vision. #letshamechangesides #female #women
