“River” by Anna Mlasowsky is a visual representation of community through voices🌊 This artwork is a visual presentation of a waveform recording of the phrase “It takes more than two to form a river”. The pitch and frequency of the recording is translated into circular glass discs, each disc representing a single pitch, and each spine containing one part of the phrase’s words. The frame is built off of an existing light pole, with spines of bent stainless steel tubes. Sculpture two of “River” at Crossroads Park in Bellevue. Each of the three sculptures has its unique color theme depending on the environment surrounding them. This one contrasts the greens and browns of the surrounding trees with yellows, reds and orange, interspersed with dots of magenta existent in the same location on each sculpture, connecting them. A month ago I installed “River” at Crossroads Park in Bellevue @bellevueartsprogram after two years of planning and fabrication. Margo Vansynghel @margo_for_it covered the process, concept and challenges in her article for @seattletimes . So proud of making this work and the relevance of its message celebrating cultural diversity and community.

In the film “Chorus of One” by Anna Mlasowsky, a dancer performs in a costume made of glass scales; their body becomes the object of fragility as they move elegantly to activate this sharp, yet wearable object. The costume was made using Rhino Glass, a product developed by the Corning Laboratories as body armor material for the US military. This glass-ceramic hybrid is bullet proof and shatter resistant, which is the only reason it doesn’t break during the performance. The choreography is based on the defence mechanisms of armored animals. Anna Mlasowsky (b. 1984, East Germany) is a curator and artist based in Washington State, USA and Stockholm, Sweden. Since 2023 she has been Professor in Craft at Konstfack University of Arts, Crafts and Design. You can experience “Chorus of One” and works of four other artists at The Space Craft Takeoff 2025 exhibition. Open Wed – Friday from 12 to 5 pm at Kista Science Tower. . . . . @annamlasowsky Graphics by @bakhshi.ella @spacecraft_exhibitions #contemporarycraft #spacecraft_exhibitions #konsthantverk #visitstockholm #svenskkonst #svenskdesign #swedishart #textilkonst #keramik #glaskonst #contemporarycrafts #glassart #kista
