Yesterday, it was revealed that Columbia University student Mahmoud Khalil was investigated and cleared by the FBI just 10 days after his arrest over his activism.
The administration pursued his detention anyway, imprisoning him for more than 100 days, attempting to deport him, and forcing him to miss the birth of his first child.
It was an honor to host Mahmoud, his wife Noor, and their beautiful family for the first MWD10 dinner at @MuslimGirl .
That evening, Mahmoud met fellow targeted activists Nerdeen Kiswani and Leqaa Kordia for the first time around our table. One of the most moving parts of the night was watching their children meet, too, beginning what will likely become a lifelong friendship, inshallah.
There is something profoundly disorienting about witnessing people treated as threats by the government while simultaneously witnessing their tenderness, humanity, and devotion to one another up close.
History has a way of clearing things up, doesn’t it?

Still taking in what our tenth Muslim Women’s Day meant.
Thank you so much to everyone that came out to celebrate the @MuslimGirl NYC proclamation with us.
It’s an honor to dedicate 2026 to celebrating this incredible milestone for Muslim media with the community that got us here, in the heart of where it all started.
Grateful for everyone who has showed up for us over the years and for everything that’s ahead inshallah.

One decade in. 🩷 @muslimgirl
Muslim Girl was first honored in 2016 as a teen blog that disrupted an industry.
Ten years later, it’s honored for reshaping the landscape of media representation as we knew it.
The record continues: Muslim Women’s Day, March 27.

TONIGHT! Praying for an historic Oscars win, inshallah.
In February, we had the honor and privilege of hosting Kaouther during her first NYC visit after being nominated for one of the most consequential films of the year.
Notably, the film’s cast is not all present for the awards ceremony due to being denied travel rights. It speaks even more to the power of cinema to tell the stories of silenced voices.
We’re all rooting for you.
