Next week at The Mockingbird Cinema!! Story Engine 3. We are creating this night as volunteers, working around our own freelance jobs because we have a passion for storytelling. There has been a gap in opportunities for midlands writers, limiting the ability to be in Writers rooms without leaving the city. Creating barriers to getting those first TV credits. We have built a community of other creatives giving time to support each other and build something meaningful. All ticket sales go back into the scratch nights. We hope you’ll join us, from Rae, Aimee and Tom *reel credit, Harry Meldrum, on work experience from BOA media*
Hello creative souls!
I’m Aimee, a UK-based professional actor and writer.
I coached actors regularly a few years ago and loved it, but took a break to focus on acting, writing, and family.
Now I’m excited to be coaching again - bringing years of professional experience to help actors feel confident, prepared, and ready to give their best performance, whether for auditions, self-tapes, or stage work.
I offer online Self-Tape & Audition Coaching for actors of all ages and levels. A few spaces are available this month - DM me to book! 💌

Final introductions- the producers. We three co-founded and co-produce Story Engine Birmingham. A labour of love that fills us with light. This is Aimee Berwick @aimee.berwick is a writer, actor and co-founder of Story Engine Birmingham.
She loves exploring characters who find themselves in a tough spot - through their own making.
In 2025 she received script development support from BFI/Midlands Film Hub for her short film Feral which is now being produced by Delilah Films.
Alumnus of the 2024 BBC Write Across scheme, where she received mentoring and support as an emerging screenwriter from Black Country.
She wrote and composed MAMA (Best Job in the World) with support from Birmingham Rep/Notnow Collective and Arts Council England.
She has a thriving co-writing partnership with Rae Mainwaring - they presented The Other Mothers at Story Engine, Birmingham Rep, co-wrote and composed Chase Tales, an interactive animation for Birmingham Rep and Inspiring Healthy Lifestyles.
She is passionate about building the Midlands writers network and loves building writers’ rooms with our growing community.
She is also an actor, musician, and voiceover artist. Her screen work includes playing Tina in My Name is Leon, based on Kit de Waal’s bestselling novel and directed by Lynette Linton (BBC2/Douglas Road Productions). Her theatre credits include Bright Places by Rae Mainwaring, directed by Tessa Walker (Carbon Theatre); The Decision, directed by Anthony Almeida (Birmingham Opera Company); and My Big Fat Cowpat Wedding (Kali Theatre/Black Country Touring).
Aimee regularly performs with Spoon in a Jar Publications, working with a live band to share stories and songs in independent bookshops such as How Brave is the Wren, and at Birmingham Jazz Festival. She has also appeared in commercials for brands ranging from P&O Cruises to Branston Pickle, and has delivered voiceovers for dozens of organisations including the NHS and the RSPCA.

What a brilliant night.
Thanks @productioncentralwm & @rtsmidscentre
Sometimes you get to channel your mom on screen…
I played Tina in My Name Is Leon (2022), stepping into an 80s look inspired by my mom, with the help of the incredible @jojowilliamsmakeup and @fionachaffey .
Set in 1980s Birmingham, the uplifting story follows nine year old Leon, a mixed race boy, on his quest to reunite his family after being taken into care and separated from his blonde and blue eyed baby brother.
Director: @lynettelinton1 Casting: @aishabywaterscasting Production: Douglas Road Productions Based on the novel by @kitdewaal
Fab afternoon at the launch of @productioncentralwm !
Loved catching up with connections made through @bbcwriters and Write Across Birmingham & the Black Country.
There’s real enthusiasm for supporting emerging writers in the region – which is exactly what we need if we want writers’ rooms to match the productions made here.
That’s what Story Engine is about: encouraging productions to use local talent and host writers’ rooms where filming is happening in the West Midlands. @story_engine_brum
