📣 Create Work for Refugee Week 2026
The Belgrade Theatre is inviting Midlands-based artists with lived experience of displacement to create new work in response to Refugee Week 2026 and this year’s theme: Courage.
We’re commissioning three artists working in any art form to develop a small-scale creative response across the week - from workshops and installations to spoken word, music, live performance, or participatory work.
Selected artists will receive:
🎭️ £500 artist fee
🎭️ Development space at the Belgrade Theatre
🎭️ 1-1 support from our Community Embedded Producer and Associate Director
🎭️ Opportunities to share work as part of a city-wide celebration with Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre on Sat 20 Jun

Nanny of the Maroons: The Epic Story of a Warrior Queen ⛰️
We are proud to reveal the official artwork for the world premiere of Nanny of the Maroons - a powerful new production bringing to life the extraordinary true story of the 18th-century freedom fighter.
Directed by @corey_ma_campbell and @justinethemen , this landmark production blends music, dance, drama, and magical realism to honour the power, legacy, and spirit of Jamaican national hero, Queen Nanny.
Developed over two years through research, community storytelling, and collaboration, it celebrates heritage, history, and the enduring strength of community.
A Belgrade Theatre and @hackneyempire production.
Co-produced with @tiatafahodzi .
