“Hur fucking fresh som helst” was creative director Agga Stage’s reaction upon entering the finished Design Stories exhibition for the first time on Friday. I couldn’t agree more, even if I can’t quite translate the notion of what she said into English. For four years this has been my moonlighting curating gig and while a little tiring on top of my day job, it has been such a joy to work with the teams at
@rohsska and
@officemmx (who designed the gallery) and
@aggaannemettestage and Alexander Söder (who created the graphic identity and the catalogue, which I also edited). Yesterday we opened the new gallery to the public and it was packed from morning to evening with record attendance of over 1700 people! Design Stories is the new permanent gallery dedicated to the wonderful collection of the Röhsska Museum of Design and Craft in Gothenburg. The method of curation was through collaboration and discussion with school children, university students, accessibility groups and museum visitors, the end result is a non-chronological, thematic exhibition looking at six themes (desire, innovation, change, creativity, efficiency, belonging) that investigates what design can enable. The exhibition also features the new platform Super Ö, which invites organisations and individuals connected with design and craft to actively question and discuss the content of the exhibition, its themes and the museum collection. First out is
@kulturlabbet and the Stor Portion / Large Portion installation (final two images) by 11 practitioners attending Kulturlabbet. For the opening of Super Ö the works reflect on the themes of creativity and belonging. Thank you to the brilliant team at Röhsska and thank you
@due_nina for inviting me to be a part of this. Congratulations all! ❤️
