ā€œA Bright Horizonā€ 2025, 185x185cm, oil on linen NOW ON SHOW at @eye_film in Amsterdam@, commissioned as part of TILDA SWINTON - ONGOING … I have to say I am very proud of this one. From the exhibition text: ā€œA Bright Horizon is the largest of Sandro Kopp’s ongoing series of hundreds of eye portraits. These are painted from life as diaristic records of encounters with friends and family around the world. This painting is based on half a dozen sittings over the past decade, amalgamated into one constructed condensation of time and place. Reflected in the iris is the island of Jura, an uninhabited Scottish landscape and the vista upon which Kopp and Swinton have looked during dozens of holidays together over the last 20 years. Sandro Kopp (Heidelberg, 1978) works primarily in figurative painting and drawing and is noted for his intense portraits of eyes. Since 2005, he has lived in the Scottish Highlands with Tilda Swinton. He is the stills photographer for many of her films. Sandro Kopp and Tilda Swinton continue to develop their ongoing life.ā€ #tildaswinton #eyefilmmuseum #amsterdam

This was me making a cameo as one of the French Splatter School artists in @frenchdispatch (no, I don’t usually dress like this šŸ˜›) … just when we were about to shoot the very first scene with the big paintings there was a brief lull as a camera arm was being fixed and Wes asked me to adjust one of the paintings, so I ran for my palette… in that first wide shot that panel is still drying. Having completed the paintings I was available to be in all the scenes where the Splatter School makes an appearance - and also to paint all the castā€˜s eye portraits around the back of the set between setups. šŸ‘ØšŸ¼ā€šŸŽØ photos by @leaseydoux_genuine šŸ™šŸ» ONLY A FEW DAYS LEFT TO SEE THESE PAINTINGS EXHIBITED IN LONDON @180.studios GET YOUR TICKETS NOW… we’ve had well over thirty thousand visitors through the exhibition and the days have been selling out. #wesandersonart #thefrenchdispatch #frenchdispatch #mosesrosenthaler #rosenthaler #abstractart #sandrokopp #abstractexpressionism #figurativeart #artforfilm #frenchsplatterschool

šŸŒŸšŸ’« I started this on in 2008 when we were just about to start shooting I Am Love… and worked on it from time to time for 6 years. Now it’s in a dear friend’s collection in Paris. …I don’t often repost things I’ve posted before but some paintings need a second outing. This is quite possibly my favourite painting I’ve ever done. #myfavouriteperson #mygreatestinspiration #thesweetestpersonever #kindness #beauty #happybirthday #thewarmestheart

A little oil study I did recently of @lisealore . It’s been a while since painted a full figure from a photo (screenshot) …it was fun. Maybe I should do more. Though I do still prefer my bodywebs. āœØšŸŽØ #figurativeart #fromlife #aktmalerei

I will be giving a talk at the Design Museum in London on June 30th with the amazing @michaeltaylor5863 - who painted ā€œBoy with Appleā€ for The Grand Budapest Hotel. What an honour! Tickets on the design museum website. #wesanderson #designmuseum #painterforcinema #artonscreen

Here’s one of my favourite paintings of the last few years. I’ve added a picture with feet in it, to get some scale context. And some close-ups… I could look at all the funky things going on in here for hours – and have done that very thing. Very enjoyable. The painting is a larger version of ā€œThe Future, Which is Youā€ which I painted for The French Dispatch. (from the scene where Rosenthaler and Simone are lying together in post-coital bliss and he looks up and imagines the dry rot on the ceiling turning into an abstract painting. And says words to the effect of ā€œI know what I’m going to paint. I’m going to paint the future, which is youā€) The version that Wes used for the film was much smaller and less worked out. #abstractart #thefrenchdispatch #painting #dryrotcanbeprettytoo

@claire_sa_speirr ā€˜s hand and a closeup of her unusual small nail. And her lovely face. Drawn in Wellington around Xmas at @dyedstudio while listening to Kate Bush and Sinead ..I came across this drawing today and realised I never posted it. Missing my Pōneke peeps and hope you’re staying dry in the floods! #colouredpencildrawing #figurativedrawing #letsgethandsy #handyman

Jenny’s Eye… one of the loveliest humans I’ve met in the past months: @jennyarcus … I have no tattoos, but she would be right up the the top of my list if I ever did decide to get one… and she painted that beautiful submarine gouache for me! šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ™šŸ™šŸ™šŸ¼šŸ’“

A few more sketches of mother’s hands. All A4 graphite on paper. Spending quality time with my parents and looking after them has been a huge part of my life in the past years. I highly recommend it. šŸ¤ #handinhand #handrawing #figurativedrawing
