I’m extremely excited to announce that I’ve been chosen by @ordnancesurvey to be one of their new OS Champions for 2024/25! Mapping Great Britain since 1791, Ordnance Survey is an organisation that I’ve always highly admired and I have been using their paper maps aswell as their #OSMaps app for many years. It’s an absolute honour and a privilege to be joining such an iconic and historic institution, along with a team of inspirational and likeminded people from all over the country, who each have a common love for the outdoors. As an #OSChampion I’ll be sharing routes, giving tips, reviewing gear and supporting OS on some of their exciting upcoming events, such as National Map Reading Week and National #GetOutside Day, with the aim of helping others to get outside and to enjoy the many benefits of the outdoors. πŸ˜€ Really excited about this opportunity and very much looking forward to be getting involved πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ˜ŠπŸ—ΊοΈ β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”- #OrdnanceSurvey #OrdnanceSurveyMaps #OSChampions #SeeABetterPlace #GetOutside #maps #mapreading #osmapsapp #mountainleader #mountaintraining #hiking #hikingadventures #hikingtrails #hikingculture #hikingaddict #hikingculture #hike #hikingroutes #walking #walkingroutes #mountains #ukmountains #mountainslovers #guidedwalks #lakedistrict #eryri #lakedistrictnationalpark #outdoors #outdoorsisforeveryone

An awesome day today, spent with friends in the Howgill Fells of eastern Cumbria. πŸ‘ŒπŸΌπŸ˜Š A 10 mile circular route from Sedbergh village which included 2 Nuttalls - Calders & The Calf, before then descending via the impressive Cautley Spout πŸ’¦ and back through the valley towards the start. Great to catch up with everyone on a beautiful sunny day in such a gorgeous location too. β˜€οΈ πŸ“- Group photo taken on the summit of The Calf . β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”- #howgill #howgills #howgillfells #hills #cumbria #yorkshiredales #yorkshiredalesnationalpark #nuttalls #nuttallbagging #mountains #ukmountains #mountainslovers #hikingwithfriends #friendsforever #friendswhoarefamily #hike #hikemore #hikinguk #hiking #hikers #hikingadventures #hikingaddict #ukhikers #ordnancesurvey #getoutside

Some more shots from doing β€˜The Lap’ around Lake Windermere last Saturday. I didn’t take that many photos (by my usual standards anyway) πŸ˜‚ - but here’s a few to stamp on my page, so I can look back on the day. I can’t believe it was over a week ago already!! I keep saying it, but it was such an incredible day with so many highlights. I made the decision not to register for next year when the tickets were issued last week and I’m already starting to regret that decision! πŸ˜… Hopefully 2028 🀞🏻 . . β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” @thelapwindermere #TheLap #TheLapWindermere #UltraRunning #LakeDistrict #TrailRunning

A very welcome pit-stop thanks to @alpkit Ambleside, before continuing on towards Troutbeck, during Saturday’s 75km route around Lake Windermere. I hadn’t stopped for water at the first 2 checkpoints, partly because of the queues, (especially big at Skelwith), so I decided to make the most of this one before the steep climb up to Wansfell (the highest part of the course). . πŸ“Έ: @jumpyjamesphotography . . @thelapwindermere #TheLap β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”- #TheLapWindermere #UltraRunning #LakeDistrict #trailrunning

An amazing day on Saturday, doing β€˜The Lap’. A 75km (47 mile) ultra, which goes all the way around Lake Windermere, with around 9,000ft (2,750m) ascent. What a day!! And such a well organised event. It was great to be part of it and to see some familiar faces along the way too! Well done to everyone who took part and a big thanks to all the incredible volunteers and supporters who made the day extra special. πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ˜Š . . πŸ“Έ Photo 1: @ged_escapes πŸ“Έ Photos 2,4,6 & 7: @jumpyjamesphotography . @thelapwindermere @alpkit β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” #TheLap #TheLapWindermere #UltraRunning #LakeDistrict #TrailRunning

One from yesterday’s stunning route up to Helvellyn from Glenridding. 🀩 This view looking back at Striding Edge from just near the summit is hard to beat! And yesterday the conditions were perfect! Surprisingly quiet too! πŸ‘ŒπŸ»πŸ˜ β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”- #StridingEdge #Helvellyn #LakeDistrict #Ullswater #Hikingadventures Lake District National Park

The breathtaking view from the summit of Lingmell, looking down on Piers Gill, in the direction of Styhead & Borrowdale. I just love the textured, craggy landscape in this part of the Lakes, it’s truly stunning. 😍 β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”- #LakeDistrictNationalPark #ukmountains #Lingmell #HikingAdventures #GetOutside

A few more photos from a fab day on Saturday, leading the @gooutdoors Community Hike with @trigsandteeth and @jessicamather_ β˜€οΈ A beautiful sunny day spent with a lovely bunch of likeminded people. We set off from Keswick town centre and firstly headed along the Keswick to Threlkeld Railway trail (part of the old railway line that originally ran between Penrith and Cockermouth). We then had a much needed ice-cream pitstop before then proceeding up the Eastern flanks of Latrigg, where we had lunch and admired the views over Keswick and Derwentwater. Thanks to @ordnancesurvey for providing us with some fantastic custom maps for the event! πŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ—ΊοΈπŸ˜Š All in all a really enjoyable day, a great route, top company and some gorgeous views too. 😍 Keep an eye out for the next #GoOutdoors Community Hike on their social channels. β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€” #CommunityHike #LakeDistrict #MountainLeader #HikingAdventures

On Saturday I headed to a lovely little village in the Brecon Beacons National Park called Llangors, to take part in the annual β€œBlack Dragon Challenge”, which is organised by @breconmountainrescue What a day! The event is a charity fundraiser for the Mountain Rescue team and has 3 routes of varying lengths, which you can either hike, or run. There’s a 27km, 36km and 46km route to choose from and I went for the 46km β€˜Endurance Route’, (which actually ended up being 47.8km, with a rather hefty 2,300m of vert πŸ˜…). My friends at @lowauk (who sponsor the event) had invited me to test out their new Skyterra trail running shoes, (part of their ATR range of trail shoes, which are also perfect for hiking too btw).. So needless to say I jumped at the chance - they were outstanding in every way, straight out of the box! Great to meet @kmhumble , who is an ambassador for the Brecon Mountain Rescue Team (and who also did the Endurance Route too) and also an absolute pleasure to meet each and every one of the BMRT volunteers who put so much effort into organising the event and for making sure it all ran smoothly 😊 If you’re interested in taking part yourself, I’d highly recommend it! And every penny goes to a fantastic cause too. Look up the β€˜Black Dragon Challenge’, or keep an eye on the @breconmountainrescue socials for next year’s entry info! πŸ‘ŒπŸ»πŸ˜ŠπŸ΄σ §σ ’σ ·σ ¬σ ³σ Ώ β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”- #BreconBeacons #BlackMountains #bannaubrycheiniog #blackdragonchallenge #hikingchallenges

A massive Happy Birthday to the @ordnancesurvey Trig pillar! πŸ₯³πŸŽ‚ - 90 years old today and still going strong!πŸ’ͺ🏻 On the 18th April 1936, the first concrete trigonometrical station was installed in a field in Cold Ashby in Northamptonshire (it’s still there today!). This was the beginning of a huge network of over 6,500 trig pillars built all across the UK, which were used by OS surveyors in the β€˜Re-Triangulation of Great Britain’, which took place until 1962 to create highly accurate mapping. A monumental project lead by Brigadier Martin Hotine. The photo on this post is one I took of the trig I’ve probably visited the most over the years. It stands on the summit of Shutlingsloe in the Cheshire Peak District.. 😍 . #OrdnanceSurvey #OSChampion #GetOutside #TrigPoint #Outdoors
