This past weekend, Access Books students from Compton, South Los Angeles, the Valley and East Los Angeles attended the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books.
For most, it was their first time at a book festival.
They met authors, explored rows of books, and spent the day surrounded by stories and people who love reading. Each student went home with a packet of new books.
Thank you to the sponsors who made this experience — and these books — possible for our students.
One student said it best:
“I never knew there were so many people in the world that like books as much as I do.”
That’s what access creates.
Not just books on shelves, but moments where students see themselves as part of something bigger — a community of readers, thinkers, and storytellers.
At Access Books, we believe equity begins with books.
And when students have access, joy and imagination follow.
