aanda is an AIA New York State 2024 Design Awards winner for our work with the Brooklyn Public Library on Activating Exteriors! This civic design project was commissioned by @bklynlibrary to transform branch exteriors in neighborhoods throughout Brooklyn. Our work included the design of an adaptable, system-wide design framework, as well as select prototype projects at multiple sites. We are grateful to have had the opportunity to work on such a visionary initiative, especially as the social services and public spaces that libraries provide become ever more urgently needed. It was a privilege to develop this work with collaborators @graincollective , @silman.structural and @other_means !

For the past nine months, aanda has been collaborating with @new_affiliates on a new chapter of their Test Beds initiative. Working with @bklynlibrary , @greenthumbnyc , @hermona__ , and a generous group of community gardeners, we’ve been able to salvage the roadway readery structures we designed and installed in 2021, redirecting them from a one-way trip to landfill to instead becoming the building blocks for new shade structures in neighborhood community gardens. deconstruction 📸 @mary.kang 🤍
