A year ago @1000realms was born without quite knowing it, with its very first pieces adorning the stages of Zeerust. Danced with, touched or glimpsed by many of you.
@1000realms is the design practice of sisters Tori and Rubi Dinardo based in Melbourne. While working on temporary design projects that asked them to conjure entire worlds only to dissolve overnight, they dreamt of many afterlives.
The approach for the Zeerust stage design focused on investing in pieces which will have a long, multi-faceted life after the festival, avoiding the material waste inherent to temporary installations.
1000 Realms reimagines impermanence, holding onto the magic, the mood, and the intensity of these fleeting worlds while avoiding their cycle of creation and discard.
And so, what began as 4 lamps for Zeerust has unfolded into the practice’s first collection, Prologue - over 20 pieces hand crafted with locally sourced materials, launching this November.
To remain in the room long after the music fades.

Memories from Zeerust Pt. 2
We are deeply grateful to have had the opportunity to gather and connect with the stories that came before us.
We were honoured to have Mark, a Bunurong Elder, lead a smoking ceremony - cleansing the space and sharing the history of the land beneath our feet.
We learned that it has long been a gathering place where the traditional owner groups of the surrounding lands came together for celebrations, ceremonies, and weddings.
To hold Zeerust in this space felt like a moment of profound alignment.

Down winding trail, past dragon’s tale
Dancing flame, forgotten name
Inside this grove, shell-spiraled cove
Metallic lights, aglow two nights
Til’ sun farewell, this dusk-cast spell
Moon through mist, first dawn’s kiss
You follow the sound, by water found
Flower and fern, a spring-time return
Reach one’s hand, as time runs sand
For you unfold, new page, untold
-Z
(2/3) Beyond the beating door of the Woolshed, heat rose off steaming bodies moving to the rhythm.
The Woolshed was Z’s chaotic pulsing heart. Light poured out of every crevice, dousing dancers in red.
An energy that words cannot capture - something that will be etched into the memories of all who witnessed.
What happens in the Woolshed, stays in the Woolshed.

Sabrina’s sculpture was the perfect finishing touch to the space, bringing both a material and conceptual sharpness to the dance floor.
Thank you once again to @purple_audio for their assistance with Kacfa’s live set, @diamondent_melb for transforming the space, and our build team for their endless help.

@tirumiksu aka MIKI’s set at Z felt like a moment frozen in time - nostalgic and electric.
She graced us under the setting sun in her glowing ufo, dropping track after beat effortlessly and in style.
Truly a pinnacle moment from NYE.

(1/3) There are many individuals who so generously offered their energy, creativity and time to make Z as special as it was. We would like to show our endless gratitude and give credit to those who brought each space of the festival to life.
Projection design: Lucia Dominguez @luci4dominguez
Like moths to a flame, Lulu’s projections dazzled and lured us toward the Amphitheatre from all corners of the festival site. Not only does Lulu possess incredible talent, versatility and ingenuity as a designer, she also carries an infectious enthusiastic energy which lifted the whole team’s spirits.
Construction team: Julian @julianbendeler , Rory @rorydoh , Christian @mandem_crispy , Taniel @tanyel___
This team had the incredibly challenging gig of making ambitious designs a reality. Z would not have been possible without their tireless teamwork and can-do attitudes. We cant thank them enough for all the late nights and early mornings put into creating the festival.
Thank you to @purple_audio and @diamondent_melb for your ongoing sound and lighting support in the lead up and throughout the festival.
