Still overwhelmed by what we’ve continued to create together during this era of fracture, rage and hopelessness in Berlin. We all talk about getting out, what’s been lost, what’s rotten — and always has been. However, during this darkness Berlin has started to come together — to find each other, build new bonds and resurrect lost ones. So much gratitude to every performer I’ve been lucky enough to build on stage (and off) with — for your trust, hearts, patience and bringing the best version of yourselves into our orbit. Our history is in you and our history is you.
Sissy Smut started as more of an indulgent celebration of our history and cult heroes. It now starts to feel more necessary — filling voids for those on stage, behind the scenes and our audience — all of us showing up ready to receive and give some sort of magic/family/hope/escape/power we’ve been looking for. We touch the edge of censorship in the pink-washed hypocrisy of this country who beats, jails and deports those who stand on the side of humanity and oppose the ongoing g3n0cïd — meanwhile we watch those who celebrate (their) rights whilst standing by with a complicity that blindingly echoes the past. Solidarity is the reason WE exist and is cost of entry.
Thx to support of
@arsenalberlin @gladstone.gallery & as always
@jizlee @pinklabeltv for the continued support in track down archival gems
And thank you as always to
@marlene_angel_bk @quotenami_ and the entire
@volksbuehne_berlin team who have continued to give me this space to sketch and experiment with total freedom. 💕
