Reposted from @pinkmcr_ UPLIFT Making an Exhibition with Will Marshall ( @_texture____ ) 11th Feb 6:30-8:30pm We have added MORE workshops! We're delighted to be joined by Will Marshall (texture) for a behind-the-scenes look at the work that turns an idea into a public exhibition. You'll learn about the process of producing an independent exhibition start to end, from the initial ideas, to selecting artists, to writing press releases and then hanging the work in the space. We will discuss step by step how Will goes about working, and break down many of the elements that go into exhibition making, not all of which is obvious or visible. About the Facilitator Will Marshall is a curator based in Manchester. He previously worked as a curator at Bankley Gallery, an artist-led studios and gallery in South Manchester, and also co-ran the nomadic Scaffold Gallery, producing exhibitions in artist-led spaces across the region. He currently runs texture, an independent gallery founded in 2025 which is defined by a curated programme of exhibitions featuring artists from outside the region as well as local. About UPLIFT UPLIFT is a funded, 10-part workshop series for artists, freelancers, and cultural workers in Greater Manchester. It offers practical support for everyday creative work — funding, pricing, marketing, contracts, exhibitions, and sustainability. Workshops run January–February 2026, delivered in person and online. Some sessions are larger and open; others are smaller and more focused. All are free, with limited places. Accessibility In person workshops will take place in a step-free venue with lift access, wheelchair-accessible and gender-neutral toilets, and seating throughout. Sessions run in mixed formats, with large-print materials, captioned online sessions, and flexible participation where possible. Please contact [email protected] to discuss any accessibility requirements, we are happy to help. Other UPLIFT workshops and booking details are available via PINK’s website (link in bio). UPLIFT is supported by Funding from the UK Government. Design: @2091studio

@_texture____ gallery’s last show in Ardwick. In 2025 I started shooting film again, going back to where art all started for me. Writing and analogue photography scratch an itch for me when i can’t get into the studio, practicing an appreciation for the mundane and everyday.

The only energy am bringing into 2026! 💁‍♀️✨ Well… that’s a wrap on 2025 at @paradiseworks_ 🌴🩷 It’s so easy at this time of year to ask “what have I actually achieved?” but looking back, I realise just how much this year has held. Alongside the challenges, changes, burnouts and personal hurdles, there have been moments I’m incredibly proud of. A whole new programme, starting my Clore Pulse Fellowship, new role at Manchester Craft and Design Centre, a major international exhibition with the brilliant Australian artist Amber Cronin, a residency in Prague, and one of the biggest highlights … launching a brand new biennale art prize here in Manchester, It’s Paradise Up North, returning in 2027 ✨ Add to that the exhibitions, openings, travels, and countless hours of behind-the-scenes work (so much more than you even know yet! 👀)… 2025 has been full, demanding, and deeply rewarding. Most importantly, I’m endlessly grateful for the community and people at Paradise Works … the support, care, and energy that keep everything moving forward everyday! 🥹🙌🏻 Wishing everyone a well-earned rest over the holidays (I know I need it 😴) and sending so much love for the year ahead! 💚 Watch this space… because 2026 is going to be a BIG one! Bring it on ✨

'Arise full of energy, ready to roll. I have visited the fair for years but never participated. I didn’t really know what to expect, whether works would actually sell, or if it was more of a networking experience. Art fairs are odd environments, overstimulating and inherently a really bad way of viewing art.' @_will_marshall of @_texture____ diarises his time at @mcrcontemporary 2025 with works from @errolaart , @candicedehnavi and @craigcoulthard , when two works by @errolaart were acquired by @mcrartgallery as part of The Manchester Contemporary Art Fund and possibly too much fun was had between the air and @paradiseworks_ open studio… Read the full diary entry via the link in our bio! 🖼️ Images: 1: Installation view of texture at The Manchester Contemporary 2025. 2: Errol Theunissen, 'No Ball Games!' at texture, 2025. 3: Candice Dehnavi, 'Just Another Screaming Speck of Dust (2025), at texture, 2025. 4: Installation view of works by Craig Coulthard at texture, 2025.

REVIEW Nov 2025 Curation in triplicate at texture, Manchester For the final show at texture, director Will Marshall stages ‘Three Readings: An Exhibition Curated Three Times’, exhibiting work by Tulani Hlalo, Jun Rui Lo and Mary Lou Lawless-Gill, and curated three times over by three different curators – Laura Biddle of Tate Liverpool, Bella Probyn of Tate Britain and curator and artist xhi ndubisi. the Fourdrinier editor Jo Manby went to see the exhibition/s and spoke to ndubisi and Marshall to find out more about how three curators can recontextualise the same show in three different ways. . . Jasmine went to @_texture____ to catch their last exhibition, three readings featuring the work of @tulani___hlalo @ryanmoyii_ maryloulawlessgill "Within the one exhibition, there are three. The final exhibition at our Ardwick gallery brings together work from three artists, curated three times by three curators - each with their own title and exhibition text. Working from the same group of artworks, each curator recontextualises their version of the show, drawing out new meanings and exploring alternate relationships between the works. Curated by @laura_a_biddle @anotherdiasporan @bellaprobyn " Continuing until 23rd November #HappeningInMCR
