Edel spoke with @dccireland ahead of Irish Design Week about our programme The Common Pot. Thanks so much to DCCI for visiting our studio and supporting us with the opportunity to run a week long series of events exploring the connections design weaves between people, food and culture.
We're getting excited for The Common Pot a programme of events part of Irish Design Week 2025.
The theme of this year's celebration is The Ties that Tie, the Links that Link exploring the legacy of Kilkenny Design Workshops. This led us to assemble a series of talks, workshops and public gatherings to explore how design weaves connections between people, food and culture.
We have our designers ready for a two day workshop in collaborative design for Risograph printing. That will take place Tue 18 &19, then either side we have a set of public events and we would like to see as many of you join us for those!
🍋 Mon 17 Nov: Talk by Muireann Charleton, Lecturer at ATU Sligo, titled A 20th Century Design Movement in Ireland: Kilkenny Design Workshops, Exhibitions 1965–1984 | ATU Sligo (Public event)
🌽 Mon 17 Nov: Opening gathering and VoKü (VolxKüche), a communal meal revealing the selected recipes and introducing the participating designers and artists | ATU Sligo (Public event, limited capacity - booking essential)
🍍Fri 21st: Closing Showcase | Yeats Building (Public event)
See link in bio for full details on all events and there's still time to submit a recipe and have it featured as part of a series of recipe cards!

Pulled Studio presents The Common Pot, a week-long celebration of the Kilkenny Design Workshops (KDW) for Irish Design Week 2025, exploring how design connects people, food, and culture.
The programme combines public talks, social gatherings, and workshops, inviting the public to engage with how graphic design and food traditions shape shared experiences. It will see the production of a series of Risograph printed recipes cards and a commemorative screenprinted tea towel honouring the legacy of KDW and two of its influential figures, renowned designers Patrick Scott and Oisín Kelly.
The programme unfolds through two open calls that bring the public and designers together in a collaborative exchange.
Firstly, the public is invited to share their most cherished one-pot recipes - simple, home-cooked dishes that bring comfort and connection. From these submissions, Pulled Studio will select six recipes that reflect the diverse traditions of Ireland’s long-established and new communities.
In parallel, six designers will be selected to take part in a collaborative design and print workshop, responding to the chosen recipes and reinterpreting their stories into a vibrant set of Risograph-printed recipe cards.
During Irish Design Week, 17-21 November, the full programme looks like this:
