This year I learnt the basics of risograph printing with @_pulled_ studios I designed and printed 100 Christmas cards to give away for free with the idea that people give them to their closest neighbours, being especially attentive to older neighbours, those who live alone or people who are physically disabled or ill in a way that holds creates barriers for them to meet their own social needs. Each household can have up to 3 cards and I will give them out till they run out ! Collection points will be as follows ✨ Bookmart, Sligo Tuesday the 16th of December 5-6pm ✨ Ard Voltas Arts space, Ballisodare 17th of December 6-7pm First come first serve. 🎄 If you are a freelance artist and without a cheesy Xmas party you are welcome to done your finest ties and white button ups at meet up at Fureys for a pintín from 7:30pm 🎄 (All subject to change) Please share to spread the word!

Have you ever needed to do a guided meditation to calm tf down but couldn't handle the new ageiness of it all? Well @kynamagic and I have made a 20-minute daily mindfulness meditation featuring nothing but the Sligo sea, Kim's dulcet Tyrone tones, and some very simple sounds. The link to watch the video and download the audio is in my bio, or you can find it on YouTube (beware of ads, though) Please feel free to share with anyone who feels the same 👀

Are you really having fun or are you overstimulating yourself to the point you can’t feel anything else? So much to say on this one but this post was inspired both by the time I was having SO MUCH FUN AND SO BUSY AND SO DYSREGULATED from a very full schedule and my therapist was like “what are you doing?” And also something else that’s private OK But also the time I went home and my family (which consists of 7 people) were in the living room and someone suggested playing a board game - something terrible & somewhat complicated like Risk - and also wanted to watch a movie on the projector. My da was already watching something on TV. This ended in my dad continuing to watch TV vol at max, my brothers playing a board game on the floor while the bright light of a projected movie screened all at full volume. Why cant we just do one thing at a time and enjoy that I asked? WE ARE HAVING FUN came the reply and my delayed reply is are ye? Are you really?? Sometimes we don’t stop long enough to feel the full range of our feelings, the deepest pits of despair and grief to make space for the joy and presence that can conversely fill it up. Sometimes it just feels safer to keep going and don’t stop and not have to feel the things that would be of great benefit to feel. It’s hard AF and painful and a gift if we can let it be. But not rn cos I’m making this post while watching come Dine with me and drinking coffee at 6PM ✌️ To this day I have never seen my family play an entire game of risk before getting bored and bowing out. #riskboredgame

MAKING WAVES AT FAOIN TUATH 🎥 We will be screening Documentary 'Making Waves' from Director Shane O' Callaghan next weekend! Making Waves is a short documentary filmed over the course of a weekend gathering on the coast of Co.Clare, which explores the experiences, uncertainties, and joys of life as an LGBTQ+ person in rural Ireland. We are particularly delighted to have it screen as part of Faoin Tuath as some of the filming was shot onsite at Common Knowledge last year. Making Waves is a heartfelt short documentary that explores the experiences, uncertainties and joys of life as an LGBTQ+ person in rural Ireland. Filmed over a memorable weekend gathering, this documentary offers an intimate meditation on the varied shape LGBTQ+ life in rural Ireland can take through the voices of 6 individuals - Michael, Darragh, Lily, Kim, Gerard & Sorcha. The Documentaries director Shane O'Callaghan works on the creative team at SoFFt Productions Ireland as a director, curator and writer. Shane makes his directorial debut short documentary with Making Waves. He has been involved in a number of exciting projects from live music videos, arts council funded short documentaries, television, as well as commercial content for a range of national and international companies. The film was produced by Gay Health Network in association with SoFFt Productions with the support of The Department of Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth. This film will be screening alongside Eimear Walshe's Film - Land Cruiser and followed by trad tunes and a Céilí in the beautiful Octagon Space at Common Knowledge. Faoin Tuath is a festival for queer people to connect beyond the city, featuring practical skill-sharing workshops, talks, live music performances, Djs, traditional music sessions, film screenings, shared meals, and much more. It takes place at The Common Knowledge Centre 26-28 July and is part of the @queersheds project aimed at creating a new way for queer communities to state space, skills, and solidarity. VICISSITUDES These are some amazing pictures by Cian Flynn on at group exhibition Faoin Aer at Ard Voltas, on a project I named Vicissitudes. It is a project based on tracking my own overall mood on a scale from 1-10 on a daily basis for about 3 years. I worked alone and with friends collaborating, making up ideas that turned into paintings, light boxes, mountain outlays, scores, music and dance. One of my favourite things is dreaming things with friends, and then doing weird things based on them. I love art, and I love messing about with my friends. We have messed about some more and tomorrow Saturday the 9th of March at 2pm, I will host some work based on this including an improvised soundscape and sound installation (we will see what happens!) and the professional dancer extraordinaire @m.3.a.r.a doing a few steps. We will close the library at 4pm following will be some sound. Maybe see you there! #art #sligo #ardvoltas #35mm #painting 📸 @cianlookalive

the zine library project I have been running on and off for almost ten years - that I began with my best friend Aliza in Barcelona, and later ran with Orion and Lluwam with lots and lots of help in between - finally has a home in it’s Irish chapter, in a little village in the north west of Ireland nestled by the Ox mountains in the arts and community space, Ard Voltas. I have been collecting, archiving and presenting over 500 zines that speak out about feminist, queer, race and class issues. This fulfils my love for both accessible art-making and education and I feel so lucky to work alongside Annina and Mark organizing collectively together, raising funds through workshops and punk shows, getting a library bike trailer made, finding cool zines, co-working on admin together, writing grants we never get, having efficient meetings and eating pancakes, dreaming, facilitating workshops, going to festivals + putting on events like low-key reading zines and listening to records on the floor like we will this Saturday at 2pm in Ballisodare village! I think it’s important to acknowledge how far we’ve come; raised moneys, got an amazing cute bike trailer, bought a high-class printer + scanner (for printing and making zines!!) and will finally realize the dream of opening the library a few times a year for people to just sit and read, be with community + experience and involve themselves in art! Because of the work of collective members, and all others who have helped in some way or another to make this possible. Incl Cain’s documentation! Thank you especially to Dany and Edel for all the support and interest they have given over the years through Pulled, Binder + Spilt Milk - I don’t think we would be where we are now in Sligo with all the opportunities you have given us ✨ I really love this project and I love the people I do it with and I’m happy to have come as far as we have 🥰 I’m glad of after a few years of saying “we” when referring to the project.. there is actually a we now hehe. If u feel like it come join us in Ard Voltas this sat to read zines, listen to records by TurnitOn collective, drink tea and practise some crochet and knit crafts and be comfy!
