‘Red pointing’ sure.. Ever heard of eco pointing before?
This summer climbers @_mimi_white and @zed_oj eco-pointed the Aran Islands off the West coast of Ireland. 🇮🇪🧗♀️🚲🎒
Despite not having any experience bike packing before the trip they cycled from their doorstep to the crag 335 kilometres completing upto 130 kilometre per day over 6 days (there and back). They spent 2 weeks sport climbing on the island of Inis Mór before biking home with all their climbing kit.
A video of their adventure will by up on Mimi’s YouTube channel climbing calm @mimi_climbingcalm this month.
Would you try this?

Psych & gratitude | First of a Grade
Last Friday before the wet weather came in I was beyond psyched to get a beautiful muy bueno conditions day down on the Little Orme.
After warming up, feeling good about my beta, I knew what to do up there.. I took a moment to get present before pulling on.
Honing focus on nothing but weight distributed on tiny surfaces, breath an movement between small holds, fighting through dialled sequences, committing to moves that where hard/clutch, climbing above some clips before clipping (as planed), trying hard, keeping calm, breath, all the way to the chains.
First of the grade for me but I feel so aware 1 grades are arbitrary 2 I’ve been assured by many this one’s friendly. More important to me is that my experience on this climb was so positive.
Sessions of genuine satisfaction over smaller wins, combined with psych to be out, all amalgamating into one perfect moment of focus, fight, execution + it’s always nice to feel strong. Big love to @zed_oj supportive belays
〰️
After having had such a big training gap, (since May) I’m surprised this went but after sending slime crime it was the next logical link + this crazy warm October allowed me to keep comming back.
After climbing my fist 7c in 2021 and then 15 more over the years all in 8 sessions or less I don’t know why it’s taken me so long to actually feel ok getting on this next grade but it might partly be down to not believing that I ever could climb 8a.
When I started climbing back at the end of 2018 I was surrounded by strong climbers who firmly believed “everyone climbs 8a”. On one hand v inspiring but on the other.. toxic. As a beginner this revered grade was simultaneously incomprehensible and also felt impossible alll at the same time, making this send feel like quite a psychological milestone.
Now though I’ve come to understand that not everyone does climb this grade ( which also isn’t important )🙃 but I do believe when lots of specific things align + the right physical & mental state:
an “8a” climber can come from anywhere.

“Tops of for extra power” ?
International women’s day 2025
Days like today are nice moments to celebrate women, all their accomplishments, each other, and how far things have come. I’m feeling full of gratitude and psych for just how many peeps have been sharing love today
〰️
Men and women have different needs biologically and there will always be some inequality in this. But the other inequality’s ( social, political, physical, systemic ) that are much harder to navigate and less simple.
I’m half expecting sharing these images may lead to some kind of unwanted sexualisation, objectification, and/or ultra disappointing attachment of my value as a person to my external appearance ( boarding ). If a guy shared these? “artsy pics of the Ogwen bru”
Tops off is just ONE of the clear indicators that double standards for different genders are still prominent and also just ONE example of the deep rooted, problematic hurdles that create a minefield of issues for us women to navigate that others don’t think twice about. I do not have the answers …
But I do think days like today are also nice moments for us all to take a sec understand how each of us experiences the same world so differently based on who or “what” we are.
It makes me sad that in some western countries today we are seeing steps backwards in women’s reproductive rights. (🇺🇸) And it’s also sad that today still some members of communities choose to interpret their culturally or religious values as more ways to further oppress women.
So to those who were asking… yes we still need this day. But let’s use #IWD to talk about how we can treat, value, teach, and interact with each other to look forward to a better future for 👏 E V E R Y B O D Y 👏

Strength is one of the most amazing qualities in any and all woman 💪🤍🪨🧗♀️💖👯♀️💪

High morale ⚖️ low energy
Psyched to be back for the start of limestone season at home, have had a few sessions here n there with some BEAutiful spring days, nice climbing, and seeing others crush ⚡️

For my climbing though it’s not been the return I’d imagined. Since getting back from ( 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘭𝘵 𝘭𝘪𝘬𝘦 ) a pretty big trip my energy levels have been on the floor. Fatigued despite resting for more than a week upon my return with little to no training. ⚖️
Everything is relative and I’m excessively grateful to have my health and am still be able to do base line life and work.. my experience over the past couple of weeks has just been unprecedented and seemingly without a straight forward explanation.
Climbing wise I’ve only been able to do a fraction of what I’m used to, feeling tired after short walks-ins, performing well below what I know I’m capable of, having my ass handed to me on several climbs below my on-sight grade.. these are facts not flaws. With these facts in mind I’m having to shift my perspective for the moment.
- Reminding myself & acknowledging ( 𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘮𝘦 ) : life has been full and demanding, and energy is not infinite.
- Enjoyed being at the crag n beautiful places, supporting others, catching rays, having fun with the camera, chilling on pads, + my 2nd favourite thing about outdoor climbing; tea & extreme pick-nicking 🍵
I was extremely psyched to lead ‘Drive drive drive’. Shook my way up it and it fully lived upto its great reputation, ( 𝘮𝘦𝘨𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘰𝘯 𝘤𝘰𝘰𝘭 𝘩𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘴 ) but I was so knackered after only two pull-ons I had to call it there. Climbing is exhausting 😅
As always so grateful my body allows me to do so much, exercising patience for more rest, and psyched to feel better soon 😮💨

Hot take: training for climbing does not always need to look like climbing 👀
Before getting out on the rock, Mimi White (@_mimi_white ) is building qualities in the gym that transfer back onto the wall.
Here are a few examples from her training:
➡️ Weighted pull ups
A great option for building pulling strength and lock off strength.
⚡️ An example could be 4 sets of 4 to 6 reps
⏰ Rest around 3 minutes between sets
⚠️ Focus on full range, control, and no kipping.
➡️ Bench press
Useful for compression and supporting shoulder balance.
⚡️ An example could be 4 sets of 6 reps
⏰ Rest around 3 minutes between sets
⚠️ Keep the movement controlled throughout.
➡️ Pick ups
Great for finger strength and force through the hands.
⚡️ An example could be 4 to 5 sets of 3 to 5 reps
⏰ Rest around 3 minutes between sets
⚠️ Choose a load you can lift with good form.
➡️ Deadlifts
Useful for building body tension, force production, and full body strength.
⚡️ An example could be 3 to 5 sets of 3 to 5 reps
⏰ Rest around 3 minutes between sets
⚠️ Prioritise technique over load.
The goal is simple. Build strength in the gym that you can actually use on the wall.
Save this for your next strength session 💥
⚠️ Please note: These are general training suggestions only. Train with appropriate technique, load selection, and rest. Progress gradually and perform at your own risk.

People, place, purpose ❤️🔥
Officially back from 3 weeks away in Angola 🇦🇴 filled with jungle 🌺, slab 👠 , and scenes 💪🏿
@climbangola and @climbingforareason have started something pretty unique, far from your average ‘climbing trip’ connecting people.
Still feel like I’m recovering maybe physical… maybe mentally? Either way I’m still not over this whole trip.
Still comprehending…
I’ve been trying to put into words some fragment of my time out there but honestly.. it’s hard to summarise when it’s all just so starkly different from anything and everything. I don’t want to reduce it.
It’s safe to say it’s absolutely bloody beautiful out there, @philippklein ‘s photos 100% say this without me needing to.
The kids, the nature, Angola, stole our hearts. I’m feeling very grateful to have been able to hangout with and climbed with some extremely talented n very strong young local climbers, had an experience of life in a very different place with whole different perspective, and supported @climbangola@climbingforareason in some way in the process.
Soo many 4am starts, some special summits, heartwarming board sessions, with a mega team of volunteers it was a fun one to say the least @tompaulrandall@philippklein@shaibendror@cocuun@rab.equipment@rab.equipment.uk

Wohhh … Angola 🇦🇴
Been out here for over a week now feeling like a very very small part of something much much bigger that @climbingforareason has initiated, established, and brought to life.
Though we have climbed some, this feels so far from a typical “climbing trip”. Escalada being a side note or bridge to a multi dimensional experience of the time spent out here.
The kids are SO psyched, capable, and amazing 🫶
Life lately:
intense ⛺️
mind bendingly beautiful 🏞️
Warm 🌞
Crazy 🤪
Nails 💅 / ✊
Fun 🪲
Raw 🤲
And so much more that I’m unable to fully articulate
If anyone’s interested or wants more information on some of the incredible things @climbingforareason is making possible, reach out 👏 Absolutely mega team @philippklein@tompaulrandall@shaibendror@cocuun@rab.equipment.uk@rab.equipment@climbangola

〰️
I first got the inkling that this was possible for me in my first session trying the lower moves this time last year, just before I then tore my hamstring on it in May 2025
After lots of rehab, training, more rehab, life and time passing, building up to feel more boulder strong, waiting for the right conditions to come back… working myself back into the same move that tore my hamstring previously was a tentative and a little scary 😣 This week a warm day finallllyy rolled around and I was able to execute 😇
🌑 This one’s been a nice to remember that projects do not have to eclipse the entire focal point of your climbing 🌕 I’ve put fewer session into this one over what’s felt like a longer period of time, given I was so close so quickly a year ago, it’s been at the back of my mind, a slow burner.
Channelling my inner sloth energy ( 𝘺𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘩𝘦 𝘤𝘭𝘪𝘮𝘣𝘴 𝘴𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘭𝘺 )⚡️ I didn’t want to add music to cloud what was a beautiful moment of power, controlled focus, and woodland bird song 🦥🧚♀️🪨🩰✨1st go of the day… again 🙃
I’m stoked to have sent this just in time, before sport season starts and JUST before I step away from bouldering to focus on rope related goals that filll my heart in ways bouldering doesn’t ❤️🔥
It’s nice to feel strong, and a privilege to step away from life’s fullness and devastating ( 𝘵𝘰 𝘴𝘢𝘺 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘭𝘦𝘢𝘴𝘵 ) headlines into the woods to play on arbitrary bits of rock for a few hours after work.
Greatful to @zed_oj for so much psych n support 🙌

These is no in between 🌬️
Two sessions four days apart I’ve had some really nice days outdoors recently. But both opposite ends of the spectrum on the fun type scale.
1 working the moves on a side proj I’ve been going back to pretty inconsistently over the last 18 months + injuring myself on it, it’s nice to come back to it.
✔️Buddha belly V7 repeated post injury | Buddha Belly low 🔜
2 Hands down the most amount of clothing I’ve ever climbed in. We went up the pass to a boulder. I climbed in all the cloths I was planning on resting in. It hailed as we walked out. It goes without saying I would not be able to function/climb in such cold conditions without alll the layers but I eventually got overstimulated by so much wind and cold despite many layers.
✔️ Northern Soul V6 (desperate send) | Northern Soul sds will have to go back when conditions are a bit less hostile 😅
All fun and games.

Full circle experience on a classic 🪨
🔪 sharp crimping , 🩰 mega moves , on Welsh mountain rock ⛰️ , 🩴 extremely accessible (road side) = 👌 quality climbing
Happy first day of spring 🌸😆 we made it 💃
〰️
The very first time I came to North Wales, back in 2020 I spent a session, trying, falling off of lots, loosing all my skin on, some may even say “ 𝘨𝘦𝘵𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘴𝘩𝘶𝘵 𝘥𝘰𝘸𝘯 “ on this problem before we had to leave.
Crazy to me to think that, so much time has passed, since I moved here, driven past it countless times, I hadn’t come back to it.
Remembering how hard I found this one years ago I was half expecting to have the same experience but I was still stoked to try it anyway. I surprised myself getting up it 2nd go… nearly 6 years latter. This climb and my experiences on it demonstrated something easy to overlook in climbing.
Both polar opposite experiences sure, but also both pretty realistic reflections of the different Mimi’s showing up at different times. A blatant reminder that the rock never changes ( 𝘦𝘹𝘤𝘭𝘶𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘢𝘨𝘦 ) we just get reflection of that version of the climber showing up this time. And this is an exercise that can expand beyond your climbing if you want it to.
Who’s showing up today?
Fills me with gratitude thinking about how climbing can be that full circle.
+ I was so stoked to have a sweet afternoon outside, in the pass

During winter I am especially conscious of my mental health, its the darkest, dampest, coldest time of the year and I feel extremely lucky to be surrounded by the best peeps and also to be better at managing these time of being more susceptible to feeling low, getting outdoors less, + that post 4PM existential energy.
I took a small little time-out from climbing and training for the first time in as long as I can remember. It was needed and really helpful at the time.
Easy to romanticise a low period of the year looking back on the highlights of the month but I’m so psyched to already be appreciating the light returning, temps rising, back on a training plan @latticetraining and hopefully rocks drying out 🤞
Making. moves.
Good things happen slowly.
