Hunter Mason delivered a full restaurant redevelopment, transforming a long‑standing Sydney institution into a vibrant modern Asian dining destination.
Founded in 1963, The Malaya has been a cornerstone of Sydney’s culinary scene. Now under the management of siblings Bella and Duan Wong, it has returned to George Street with a fresh vision.
Our team managed every detail of the two‑level fitout, including a bespoke bar, upgraded commercial kitchen, mezzanine office, amenities and an internal DDA lift. The space now accommodates 180 guests, with indoor dining, semi-private areas and a stunning alfresco terrace.
The result is a warm, inclusive space that honours The Malaya’s legacy while elevating the guest experience.

Hunter Mason partnered with Atlassian to deliver a transformative workplace across three levels at 363 George Street, Sydney. Each floor was designed with a distinct purpose, yet together they form a cohesive environment that celebrates innovation, flexibility, and collaboration.
Level 29 serves as the Arrival and Connection Floor, the project’s feature level. It combines quiet zones, open work spaces, and a full commercial kitchen to create a central hub for connection and wellbeing. Level 27 was envisioned as the Team Gathering Floor, with configurable spaces enabling
Atlassian to adapt and reconfigure for its collaborative rituals. Meanwhile, Level 24 became the GSD Floor — a high-performance zone with open-plan workstations and modular pods, purpose-built for focus and productivity.
This project showcases how modular design, sustainable practices, and adaptive construction can redefine the workplace of tomorrow while providing a seamless and engaging experience today.
