Let us tell y’all something! We felt the loooove at @blackzinefair this past weekend! We greeted and waved to the people, we shared our stories and works, and talked and connected with beautiful folk. We met friends old and new, met a record number of southern/DMV/757 folk (?!?!) — aaaand we had the pleasure of sitting in between the benevolent @thefreeblackwomenslibrary and @vicegrip.archives ! 🖤 Much gratitude to @blackzinefair , the amazing BZF volunteers and @sojourners4justice for having us again this year! We are so grateful to be able to storytell and be inspired by this community. BZF 2026 is one for the booooks! 🩶

YEEEEEEEP! Southern Proletariat Music Company is making their way to @miamizinefair this Saturday! It’s gonna be a beautiful day to come be in community with all the Miami folk! We come bearing our love-labored experiences from the lands of the DMV and the 757 and connect them to our everyday musical lives. Our 1/2 Jared will be sending his love from NYC this weekend, but we can’t wait to share the projects we have been working on. Let’s get down to meeting and getting to know our fellow exhibitors! See you there! 🫶🏽 Check out more MZF info in their bio! 🔗

Greetings again, dear people! We continue to wish y’all a fruitful new year and much celebration for 100 years of Black History Month! It’s been a month since the broadcast of our second @nts_radio episode: Peace Like a River w/ SPMC! We got a chance to listen along and reflect while we took some time away in the mountains of Western Maryland during the New Year’s holiday. For this episode, we wanted to bring works together that can guide us back to having peace in the most unjust and oppressive of times. There is struggle and fight to find again the moments that many can fully say "it is well with our souls." From gospel legend Marion Williams and songful elders Beverly Glenn-Copeland & Linda Perhacs, to Kelela and Joy Guidry, to Leontyne Price and the jazz-practitioner greats, we hope that this 1-hour enthusiast mix will provide even a fraction of peace for our everyday journeys. [NTS Description] Take it from two water signs: If water and soil hold memory, then peace can be found in the riverbed. Southern Proletariat Music Company offers an hourlong mix of peace-on-earth renderings in the fruitful music of our upbringings and influences from the general Afro-American perspective. Consider this ruminating mix as a sonic earthenware for those seeking an inner sanctum for spiritual regeneration with a dash of hope for today, tomorrow and thereafter. Link to our 'Peace Like a River' episode in our bio! Big love and gratitude to NTS Supporter Radio and the people for tuning in! More sharing and gathering to come soon. 🖤

Greetings :) This is Maya Fisher (@_fishermonger ) and Jared Marshall (@jaredchristophermars ) with Southern Proletariat Music Company taking over the Black Zine Fair account for the rest of the day, ahead of The ★ @blackzinefair ★—— a celebration of all things Black and independent publishing in New York City! Event details below. We are excited to participate as an exhibitor alongside 70 other exhibitors and educators. Southern Proletariat Music Company is an evolving duo zine publishing project. Our work is informed and infused with personal narrative, the African-American music experience, and expressions of rejection towards white supremacist (material, symbolic, and psychological) infrastructures. We publish multigenerational, compassionate, love-laboring, critical (as best we can) series of published mixed-media zines about creating conversations regarding viable and valuable spaces in musical performance practices embracing Jazz, Classical, and othering Black music traditions inspired by such art forms. As (@fishermonger ) my zines are a humble mixture of personal experiences as a Black musician from the South in combination with collage elements such as print, poetry, and drawing for example. My topics usually rely on my background in classical music to provide the sonic and prose settings to the narratives that I weave into each zine. I want to make zine materials that young, black aspiring artists have access to for their own affirming needs. ★ Date: Saturday, May 3 ★ Time: 11am-6pm  ★ Location: @powerhouse_arts (322 Third Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11215) ★ Cost: Free with RSVP RSVP → https://withfriends.co/event/23026272/black_zine_fair

(A glimpse of) Tidewater Pastoral connects my curiosities about the history of my birthplace, Newport News, Virginia and subjects such as the militarization of music education, colonialism and the transatlantic Black music experience. I’m figuring out what I want to say about being born in Hampton Roads. There’s 1619 Point Comfort, 1997 Newport News, 2025 and beyond Hampton Roads. Tidewater Pastoral is one slice of perspective I have been sitting with as a classically trained musician in Virginia. Feeling seen!! Lucky to have listened to the rich conversation between @thelmagolden and @franklinsirmans , gaining a deeper understanding of Thelma Golden’s impact on the Studio Museum of Harlem. I’ll be circling back in 20 years (or less)
