Let us tell y’all something! We felt the loooove at @blackzinefair this past weekend! We greeted and waved to the people, we shared our stories and works, and talked and connected with beautiful folk. We met friends old and new, met a record number of southern/DMV/757 folk (?!?!) — aaaand we had the pleasure of sitting in between the benevolent @thefreeblackwomenslibrary and @vicegrip.archives ! 🖤 Much gratitude to @blackzinefair , the amazing BZF volunteers and @sojourners4justice for having us again this year! We are so grateful to be able to storytell and be inspired by this community. BZF 2026 is one for the booooks! 🩶

Greetings again, dear people! We continue to wish y’all a fruitful new year and much celebration for 100 years of Black History Month! It’s been a month since the broadcast of our second @nts_radio episode: Peace Like a River w/ SPMC! We got a chance to listen along and reflect while we took some time away in the mountains of Western Maryland during the New Year’s holiday. For this episode, we wanted to bring works together that can guide us back to having peace in the most unjust and oppressive of times. There is struggle and fight to find again the moments that many can fully say "it is well with our souls." From gospel legend Marion Williams and songful elders Beverly Glenn-Copeland & Linda Perhacs, to Kelela and Joy Guidry, to Leontyne Price and the jazz-practitioner greats, we hope that this 1-hour enthusiast mix will provide even a fraction of peace for our everyday journeys. [NTS Description] Take it from two water signs: If water and soil hold memory, then peace can be found in the riverbed. Southern Proletariat Music Company offers an hourlong mix of peace-on-earth renderings in the fruitful music of our upbringings and influences from the general Afro-American perspective. Consider this ruminating mix as a sonic earthenware for those seeking an inner sanctum for spiritual regeneration with a dash of hope for today, tomorrow and thereafter. Link to our 'Peace Like a River' episode in our bio! Big love and gratitude to NTS Supporter Radio and the people for tuning in! More sharing and gathering to come soon. 🖤

it’s not too late for a 'season' announcement… right? anyways, i’m so excited to be opening (and closing) my first Handel opera as the title role of Rinaldo TODAY at 5pm and TOMORROW (4/23) at 8pm! please come out to support my amazing castmates! couldn’t have asked for a better group of talented, committed singin’ folk. it’s been quite the journey getting immersed into this great role and i’m very grateful to culminate my time and experiences at MSM with an opera such as this one. link to the livestream and ticket info in my bio! in the meantime, feel free to stay tuned to the other awesome happenings that are happening real soon! happy sprang and earth day, and post-holy week! 🫶🏽 📸: theeeee @wjsandel

whew! I am humbled to present my POSTgraduate voice recital on March 22nd! it's crazy to think that this @msm.nyc ride is almost over! I am excited to sing some standard repertoire that I love to play around with, a couple Afro-Latin Spanish songs, along with Black American tunes that include spirituals and some ever-loving Duke tunes. aaaand my dear sister, @_fisherrrrrr will be narrating words by a few esteemed Black figures who've inspired me and the recital's theme. in this program, I wanted to shed more light on the uplifting material that us everyday folx could use, especially when the efforts to love, to resist, to belong, and to mobilize on this land and other lands alike are constantly being challenged — but not moved. as always, biiiiig shoutouts and blessings to my fellow musician-friends at MSM who graciously agreed to collaborate on this recital! the program will also include another special dedication to my late grandmother JoAnn and my late Aunt Eileen, with a recording of them singing a gospel interlude for a wedding in their community. the livestream link will be available in the bio closer to the date of the recital. sending my best and hoping to see you there! 🖤

greetiiiiings! the time has come for me to present my graduate voice recital on Sunday, 3/17/24! in over a week's time… what a quick and valuable ride grad school at @msm.nyc has been! i’m so excited to be presenting some Vivaldi, Brahms, Barber, Ravel and Black American music that makes this recital feel quite special. i’m especially thrilled to perform some early tunes by the benevolent @beverlyglenncopeland and one of my favorite works by a hometown hero, Duke Ellington. shoutout and deeeep gratitude to the special musician friends + collaborators who graciously agreed to join me on this program. it’s also a great joy to have the first friend i made in undergrad, my dear sister, @_fisherrrrrr as narrator of the words once spoken + written by the Black women writers who inspired and affirmed my own sentiments of the meaning of home: as a place to love, to belong, to organize, and to resist. i'm humbled under the floor, but so blessed. this recital is a dedication to so many who sent their love + support from home to here and anywhere! this program is a special dedication to the memory of my late grandmother, Jo Ann Marshall, who is one of my earliest reasons to be an artist and who will be featured with a posthumous recorded performance. the livestream link will be available in the bio! sending love, hope to see you there! thinking of words to say to my 14-year-old self right now……
