Is reclaimed leather the answer to ethical consumption? 🌱
@drmartensofficial invited us to their HQ in Camden to check out their latest innovation, the Genix Nappa Collection. So, let’s chat about the future of leather, regenerative farming, and scalability with Director of Sustainability, Tuze Mekik, and presenter, @sarabi_ldn .
If you haven’t heard of reclaimed leather before, we’re not surprised. DMs are one of the first brands to sell products using this process and material. They’re made by milling leather offcuts and adding heat and pressure to fuse them with textiles.
At Colechi, we love transparency. And getting behind the curtain is a great opportunity to share with our audience what brands are really doing. We’re not paid for this, our goal is to understand the environmental impact of the clothes we buy, their manufacturing and their afterlife. And we dove deep into DMs process!

@clarachuu playful and whimsical London Fashion Week debut ‘Handwritten Notes’ transported us to her upcycled world where there’s beauty in trash and fun in constantly reusing and creating.
Set in a microcosm of what it looks like for materials to always be in circulation, it was really a statement to stop taking things so seriously!
Some call it biodesign, others call it next-generation materials. Colèchi called it vegan leather in our 2021 Material Guide, and back in the early 2010s designer Suzanne Lee coined the term biocouture when she began growing clothing from bacteria.
For our final YKWU Unravelled event of 2025, we called it BIOFABRICATION and think this word best captures the materials movement happening in fashion.
We unravelled the complex journey from lab to market, progress from materials like mycelium leather used by luxury houses like Stella McCartney and Hermès, to the increased urgency to replace petrochemicals and push for interdisciplinary collaboration.
Following the talk was a Natural Textile Ink Workshop with @sugar.and.sliime and knitting with @woolandthegang Tencel Yarn led by @_erica_collins_

AGREENCULTURE Supper Club with @communi.table hosted at @earth.tenders was a gathering to meditate on the fact that like eating, wearing is an agricultural act.
As Freyja Haddrill-Selman writes in our journal, ‘when we remember wearing as an agricultural act, we might imagine ourselves as agents of transformation, stewarding a new way of relating to fashion and fibre that can enrich our lives and ground us in care for each other and the natural world.’
Thank you to everyone who joined with us 💜
