When I started writing it 12 months ago, something shifted in me. It taught me a lot about what I want to say as a composer, and it really shaped the musical direction I’ve been moving toward ever since. It began with a field recording from the streets of Penang and developed pretty quickly from there.
I’ve always loved the collaborative nature of composition, and with this release I made a conscious decision to surround myself with creatives whose work I genuinely admire.

This time last year, during a quiet week at work, I asked myself a somewhat scary question: What do I sound like when I’m not writing to a brief?
My last personal release was over five years ago, and because I get such profound artistic satisfaction from screen composing, I rarely stopped to ask myself that question.
What followed was a joyous few days in the studio where I let go of any preconceived notions about who I am as an artist and focused on writing from a deeply authentic place. Aunties brings my love of film and electronic music together under one roof. I’ve been lucky to collaborate with an incredibly talented group of creatives on this one, and I can’t wait to share more soon. Sound on for a little preview 🎧
