An interactive AR experience made to bring physical and digital worlds together. šŸĀ Ā  Nature’s Pollinators is a project we made to playfully teach people about pollinating insects and their favourite flowers, using Lens Studio from @snapchat . Each pollinator looks for it’s favourite flower, and follows it around as you move the cards in your hands. DD alumni Anushka Khemka, Riya Mahajan and Ruby Bell will be at @newdesigners next week sharing their work and representing @rca_digitaldirection . Hello! Ruby here šŸ‘‹šŸ» Taking a moment to introduce ourselves! My name is Ruby Bell, and I’m one half of Tandem with my fave @___riyamahajan . I’m from Sydney, Australia, but have been living in London for almost 10 years now. My background is in filmmaking and interactive content, and I strive to make work that’s playful yet purposeful. In my commercial work as a director/editor, I’ve worked with clients like Nike, Urban Outfitters, and Bumble. I also spent a few years at Playdeo, an interactive entertainment startup where we made an iOS experience called ā€˜Avo’—described by Apple as ā€œGroundbreaking playable TV.ā€ Personally, I’m also really passionate about contributing to a fair and inclusive arts industry, especially for young people, and have been proud to mentor and facilitate work experience programs in the past with @artsemergency and to have worked with @wowglobal as part of their advocacy programs for girls and young non-binary people. When I’m not working, I like to let loose on a dance floor—one of my first memories with Riya is getting into the motion capture studio in our first week of the RCA to put the mocap suits through their paces! šŸ•ŗšŸ»šŸŖ©

Well, we have some news! 🤭✨ We are excited to share that we are launching a design studio, @tandemstudio.work ! ā€˜Tandem’ is an idea that is close to our hearts. We’ve been working closely together for over a year now, and we’ve found that we’ve made our best work when we’ve made it with each other. Our practice involves working with digital technologies to create memorable and impactful experiences, with storytelling at the heart of every project we do. In the past year we’re proud to have exhibited at @framelessldn , @britishartfair at @saatchi_gallery , @outernetglobal , @londonbreezefilmfestival , and the @royalcollegeofart x @snapchat symposium; presented at @nowplaythis , and have been recognised by the @hhcdesignrca awards. We’re optimistic about what the future holds for us as we continue our work together. Watch this space! šŸŖšŸ’žšŸ’«

Today is our last day at @framelessldn ! It’s honestly been such a highlight of our careers to have brought our project to this gallery—the largest permanent multi-sensory experience in the UK, and not to mention, home of the world’s most beautiful escalator! šŸŖ©Ā šŸ’ŽĀ ā˜„ļø Sharing Moody Monsters here meant that we were able to showcase work created by young people in the same venue where works by Dali, Monet, Rembrandt, and Kandinsky are also shown. Getting to involve young people in the arts is always something we’re going to be excited by, and we plan on doing even more! We’re honoured to have been a part of the history of emerging artists exhibiting in the Blank Canvas gallery, and deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to and supported us and the project in all ways, big and small. 🪐

šŸ•¶ļø 🤳 Alumni from across the Royal College of Art joined the Snap Inc. AR Day London Hackathon in December. The two day event allowed participants to dive deep into using Snap’s new @spectacles , understand their new features and network with other developers. Participants were divided into teams and competed for cash prizes with their new #AugmentedReality projects. And the 1st and 2nd place winning teams included our MA Digital Direction graduates @anushkakhemka and @___rubybell šŸ™Œ šŸ™Œ 🄁 Anushka Khemka’s team project SpecJams (Slide 5) is an AR music app for Spectacles, letting users jam together by tapping 3D objects in the real world. It enhances social connection and creativity in shared real-world physical spaces. šŸ‘» Ruby Bell’s team project Ghost Catch (Slide 8) is a multiplayer AR spectacles game where your goal is to catch a cheeky ghost as many times as you can before the timer ends. The participants were joined by Raag Harshavat (SR AR Developer Relations Specialist, Joseph Darko (Head of AR Developer Relations), Chris Reilly (AR Engineer, Education) and Summer Wu (Product Manager) who led the two days of activity. Had a BLAST at the @spectacles hackathon in the London @snapchat office this weekend, and proud to say that our team took home second place! šŸ†šŸŽ‰ @orlandomathias @kaberikram and I met for the first time this weekend, and got to work together for 24 hours on making a Connected Spectacles experience. We loved how multiple people can now interact with virtual objects in a shared space in true AR, so we made ā€˜Ghost Catch’—a multiplayer game where your goal is to catch a cheeky ghost before your opponent spots it! I had a ridiculous amount of fun being a part of this event and got to meet some really creative and clever people making great work. Can’t wait to keep working with @spectacles ! šŸ‘»
