When I was a little child, I heard a lyric that imprinted itself in my young mind and never left. Some years ago, I found out it was from a poem by Pasolini. I opened my last Inner Mono show with it, and tried to pay homage to its reflection on the passing of time, and the indelible mark of childhood experiences, through the best musical metaphor I could conjure up: drums. Drums on drums, sounds imitating drums, drums followed by no drums. Many acoustic. Guitars even. ~~~ It’s now all archived on innermono.net for the tracklist- and poem-curious. Alien Transmissions from a Dubwise Planet. @natural.orbit speaker freak @dddfinch sets the tone with sub bass suspension before a pair of @sutrofm residents blast us further into the Andromedan expanse. DJ and researcher @___airali___ is a true scientist of strange club music: her mixes weave together far-flung fringes, shifting from dark and twisted to playful and graceful; wobbling, floating and stinging without warning, yet always with complete control of the arc. This is an emotional one: Ilaria is one of our oldest collaborators, and over the years we’ve shaped each other’s taste, while also working together on visionary projects. We’ve shared stages in London, Europe and the US, and her mixes for @nts_radio , @fold.ldn , @thisisransomnote , and @untitled909 have allowed her to share her spiralling sounds with a global audience. Currently a resident on @sutrofm in San Francisco, Airali is joining us all the way from California: so we’re leaning into the jet lag and asking her to close the night. Launched a website to archive tracklists, notes, recordings and the poems that open each Inner Mono mix ~~> innermono.net 💽 When I started the show, I wanted to center the themes and poetry that inspire each mix as much as the music itself, and this feels like a better way to share all the context around it than posting here ~ in a way, it’s also an account of some of my favourite releases and poems I’ve discovered this past year I’ve really enjoyed exploring different musical paths in the last few months and this show has created a lot of mental space for me to do this, so I’m very grateful to @sutrofm for giving it a home. And to @mollyjlturner for giving it a visual identity so unique it made it all the way to my birthday cake 🩶
