End of Space To mark the end of the Space63 project, we produced a shirt to commemorate the two-ish years of takeovers, pop‑ups, and incubation that happened here. Only 63 pieces will be produced, each numbered from 1 to 63. Free size, because it's hard to deal with inventory problems. Waahhh..  Price Php 630  Where-where ;) 1. At the Saan‑Saan pop‑up in Space63, the last takeover before the space ends.  2. A limited pre‑order will be available via Google Forms (link in the bio) for everyone who reached out to reserve.  Design The shirt is inside out. It looks pa-cool that way, and maybe it reflects what we tried to do with the space. Listed at the back of the shirt are the people, groups, and institutions who took part. Thank you to everyone who trusted and used the space. The mix of names shows the diversity of creative communities in the Philippines who need places like this. Next Space63 was always meant as a short‑term project to show land and space owners that it matters to let creatives in. Spaces that won’t exploit them. Big thanks to Maya and Mamshie of Comuna for letting me do this. Sorry sa gulo, haha. Someone will take over the space permanently. As for me, I’ll move on to other spaces and places. Hopefully I can convince more people with land and properties to let creative entrepreneurs use them without expensive rents. Wish me luck! Kekeke. /end_of_space

TFPH 2025 In Photos: Our Type Exhibit & Library in @__63.ph was a lounge space for inspiration and connection. 🖼️📚 Our Filipino Type Archives Exhibit showcased type from, or related to the Philippines dating from as early as the 1900’s to 1990’s. With type collections that have been generously shared by @dti.designcenterph and @teammanilastudio , the exhibit got to appreciate how the craft of type, and its movements have evolved through the years. Our Type Library is sourced from our personal collections of type-related books. Through this, we got to share how type brings these publications to life. From type specimens, to type education resources, to simply beautiful applications of type, our goal was to inspire our participants with our curated selection of books. These publications were shared by @aniciaclean @kookiesantos @aaronxamar @inksplosive @nicong.co @rikufrontier and @commonroomph . ❤️ We are grateful to @__63.ph for opening up a space of possibilities for us to explore and experiment with. What started out as a blank space became a vibrant spot for creativity and inspiration to come alive. ✨ We got to complete the vibe of the space with the W Series speakers from @alphaworks.ph , as we played classic 70’s-90’s Filipino tunes. 🎶 Special thanks to @in.the.making_ph for offering their skills and resources to make our Type Exhibit & Library functional, welcoming, and interactive! Each detail of the crate set up and layout was intentional to crafting the experience of the space. 🙏 We enjoyed seeing the reception of our Type Exhibit & Library, and how everyone got to engage with the publications and prints in the space. We are hopeful that we can continue cultivating more of these creative spaces for each other! #TFPH25 #TypeFairPH #TypeFairPhilippines

In Tan’s practice, repetition served multiple functions simultaneously: emptying (language learning anxiety, migration experience), and creating visual texture while maintaining linguistic content. Her “emptying” was strategic rather than absolute—a way of opening space for new meanings to emerge. Visit the exhibition at Space63, Comuna, open Tuesday to Sunday, 5–8 PM. "Container of Distance," the second exhibition of Filipino-Chinese artist Elisa Tan (1937–2022) in the Philippines, gives space to an artist whose remarkable practice synthesized minimalism, conceptual art, and a deeply personal meditation on language, migration, and belonging. Despite having an extraordinary artistic journey that spanned three decades and three continents, Tan has remained largely unknown. After graduating with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 1963, Tan spent a decade in the United States (1964–1974) developing her painting practice. Her artistic evolution took a decisive turn toward the conceptual after moving to Europe in 1975, as she transformed the envelope and postal material into both material and metaphor—containers carrying “the absence of one in the presence of the other.” As a member of Paris’s Le Collectif Femmes/Art between 1976 and 1978, Tan created work that challenged traditional boundaries between image and text. Her writing performances—typing endless conjugations of verbs or filling envelopes with the word mots (“words”)—explored labor, gender, and the relationship between language and meaning. These works emptied words of conventional significance while filling them with new visual and spiritual possibilities. “Elisa Tan: Container of Distance” Space63, 2F Comuna Tuesday–Sunday, 10AM–8PM Free Admission #MCADmanila #MCADexhibitions #MCADcommons

Elisa (Siau Hua) Y. Tan (1937–2022) was a Filipino-Chinese conceptual artist. Born in China, she moved to Manila as a child and earned her BA in Fine Arts from the University of the Philippines Diliman in 1963. After graduation, she spent a decade in the US and Europe, gaining recognition for her large-scale paintings and her intellectual efforts to merge word, image, and the everyday. Despite her prestigious residencies and exhibitions, she never fully achieved widespread acclaim. Tan’s artistic career ended abruptly after a 1995 show in Paris, where a spiritual crisis led her to stop exhibiting her art. She briefly returned to her ancestral village in China, where she converted to Christianity, before moving to Baguio to live a private, solitary life dedicated to her faith. Much of her work remained in storage. After surviving a heart attack in her later years, she was inspired to revisit her art to fund humanitarian projects. She passed away on 7 January 2022, just one day before her 85th birthday. Her work and papers are now being catalogued and archived by her estate.
