Super excited to show some animation work using Riso printing c/o @_badstudent ! I’ve been building the world of Soniquest for years in my head and I wanted to use some of the characters to make an experimental animation piece.
Before putting together the final riso animation, there was a lot of planning involved. Here are some steps I took:
- roughly animated the sequence in #RoughAnimator on the iPad. Given the limitations of an A4 print, I had to make sure it fit within 24 drawings. Bonus challenge of making it look like a nice poster.
- rendered and laid out each unique frame on @procreate
- timed and put together each frame to test the animation out
- sent the final poster for printing
- scanned and composited everything together on After Effects. Since I had multiple prints, I used the different scans to come up with the changing textures.
Super happy with how it turned out. Wonder if I can make a short film using this technique.

2025 in review
Made a lot of fun personal work this year. Didn’t get to do a lot of animation work but illustrated more, played music, and turned illustrations and type into tangible stickers. Creative highlights include:

Really proud of the work we did for this year’s National Teachers’ Month. With @canva_ph as this year’s official design partner, we had an opportunity to do something different.
This was really special to me. My mom was a Metrobank Foundation awardee and this felt like a full circle moment working with the organization to celebrate a new generation of teachers.
