Bad Student

When @_badstudent reached out about riso printing this piece, my grandma had just returned to the hospital. She had a stroke at the end of last year, but we thought she was recovering well, so she came home for a few days until she had another seizure. By the time we finished printing, she could no longer speak, but she could still listen. This video shows a snippet of that conversation. Thank you @pautiu and @felizecamille for giving me a chance to walk through memory lane with her 🫂 I made this illustration a few years ago while thinking about objects that remind me of my childhood with grandma. My parents divorced when I was young, so grandma spent a lot of time raising me while mom and dad were figuring themselves out. A sweet friend told me, “I wish I got to meet her, but her soul lives on through you, Ashley, so I’m glad I could know her through you.” Today is Mother’s Day and the first day of grandma’s funeral service. The grief is here, but it’s only strong because of the love. I hope you all get to live a life as fully as grandma did 💗

Hi hello! Bad Student NY here 🌟 Just wanted to say thank you to @momaps1 @fadmarket for having us on the celebration of their 50 years. 🎂 When we immigrated here, MoMA PS1 was showing the exhibition of ‘Balik sa Bayan’ / ‘to return home’ as part of @littlemanilaqueens and felt so timely because we had a few days left before our family goes back home to Philippines. Whenever we felt a bit homesick during cold winter months, we either go to Little Manila and have a little taste of home or be in this museum where it tells time and time again, the visual narratives and stories of immigrants that resonated with our experience. To be invited in this event, is not just for us, but to our families, friends and artists we believe have their dreams on those prints and books. As a small DIY press with big dreams, thank you MoMA PS1 & @elenamariakg @jolenefernandezstudio for letting us carry the dream of our families back home into our another home here in Queens 💗💐 Every print was packed by the loving hands of our small family here (see our mom in this pic bringing us food 😝 HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY QUEEN 👸) and friends who yapped and watched Bini Coachella with us in exchange. 🤣 Thank you to @swma.nyc / James who drove and helped us load in, friends who dropped by and supported and @way.of.love.in.sunnyside for letting us dream big❣️💞 🏡 🚙 🥘 shout out to @arellanopandesal for the delicious ube pandesal 😋

Hey everyone!!! We’re still recovering from Circuit City! 😵‍💫❤️✨ From riso printing and cutting proxy cards til 2AM 😴, to booth planning 🤔, and to carrying boxes up the nonworking escalator early in the morning 😅 The whole weekend felt like one big love letter to Riso print culture, Pokémon enthusiasts, and the D.I.Y. community 🫂🖨️⚡ Thank you to everyone who passed by our booth, shared stories with us, joined our 1st Proxy Card Illustrator’s Cup 🏆, and got excited over each other’s cards 🫂 Seeing everyone connect through tiny printed things genuinely made us happy 🥹💕🙏 We’re currently printing all the proxy cards on the riso machine one by one (!!) We will be going this weekend to National Museum of Women in the Arts in Washington DC and would be lovely to see some of you all again 💗💗💗 Join us for a special market from 10 am to 4 pm co-curated by NMWA (@womeninthearts ) and SAMASAMA (@samasamaart ) a collective dedicated to celebrating diasporic narratives through art and gathering. This market will feature a lineup of women and gender-expansive makers, artists, and vendors offering handmade jewelry, art, ceramics, and vintage finds in the museum’s Great Hall. As part of this collaboration, SAMASAMA (@samasamaart ) has curated a selection of artists, bringing their unique perspective on heritage, identity, and storytelling. Welcome to our very first PROXY CARD ILLUSTRATOR’S CUP 🏆 🃏 Happening on April 25 & 26 from 10am-10pm at Ayala Malls Circuit Makati, Activity Center 🌟 Sharing with you some FAQs for the event. 1. What is this event? A creative drawing event where you design your own custom trading card on Riso-printed blanks. 2. When and where is it? April 25 to 26, 2026 at Ayala Malls Circuit Makati, Activity Center from 10am to 10pm. 3. Who can join? Open to everyone. 4. How do I join? Just show up to the event. There will be 100 cards per day. One card for each participant only. 5. Is there a fee? None. Participation is free and on a first come, first served basis. 6. Is this a Risograph workshop? No. However, your illustration submission will be printed in Risograph after the event. 7. Will materials be provided? Yes. Drawing materials will be provided at the venue but we also encourage participants to bring their own materials. 8. What do participants receive? Participants will receive 3 copies of their trading card illustration printed in 1-color Risograph. 9. When will the participants receive the Risograph printed cards? Participants will receive their Risograph printed cards after the event, to be picked up at our studio in Cainta, Rizal. We will notify the participants once their cards are ready for pick-up. 10. Are there prizes? Yes. The winner of the Proxy Card Illustrator’s Cup will get a jumbo A3-size Risograph print of their card design and will be invited to attend our upcoming risograph workshop for free. 🏆 11. How will the winner be chosen? Members of Bad Student & Season Pass will choose the winner based on a voting system. The card with the most votes win. — NOTE: THIS IS NOT A RISOGRAPH WORKSHOP. First print run so nice, we had to do it twice! Want to thank everyone that bought a copy of the first edition. If it wasn’t for all of ya’ll, this 2nd edition would’ve never come to life! 🙏🏽 Thank you @_badstudent for another opportunity of collaborating with ya’ll! An edition of 40, signed and numbered. A visit to @_badstudent ’s risograph art press and workshop in Cainta, Rizal. It was our first time in the studio, hosted and facilitated by our friends from Bad Student PH, @kiko_tiu and @palabricaash . The space immediately felt energizing and inspiring, filled with toys, furniture, archival prints, and odd objects. There’s a strong sense of nostalgia and familiarity in terms of visual language in how everything is arranged. During the session, we printed the illustration we developed for our collaboration with @stretch_four . It’s a 4-color risograph print on 180 gsm Gesso Materica paper, using yellow, red, blue, and black drums. Seeing the piece come together through the process (layer by layer) is a very immersive experience. The final print came out exactly how we imagined it while working on the illustration. There’s a certain charm to analog methods, the slight imperfections, the texture, the tones, the way colors interact. it’s just intentional. Thanks again to Bad Student!
