We are so pleased to announce the Five Boroughs Music Festival 2025-26 season! Highlights abound this year, including a flurry of 5BMF debuts: the Philadelphia-based @filament_baroque with flutist/soprano Alice Teyssier; chamber ensemble @philosoniamusic performing alongside 5BMF returning collaborators @brooklynartsongsociety ; the unforgettable @publiq4tet ; the renowned @american_brass_quintet ; and celebrated vocalist @josephparrishh featured in our second annual collaboration with the Orchestra of St. Lukes’ (@oslmusic ) Five Borough Tour! 5BMF’s 19th Season is an exploration of American musical identity. How can a composer who was born in another country write music that is classified as “American”? What kinds of American musical traditions and sounds have influenced contemporary composers, and in what ways? What IS American music? These questions of musical identity will be examined throughout our season in compelling ways — all while inspiring audiences with a phenomenal lineup of artists and programming! We are proud of 5BMF’s ongoing mission to present virtuosic, creative, and brilliant chamber music that represents the diversity of our beautiful city. Please visit our website for more details! We can’t wait to welcome you across the boroughs!

In 1892, Harry T. Burleigh, an African-American baritone and composer, met Czech composer Antonín Dvořák and the two began a friendship, rooted in an appreciation for spirituals and folk music, that shaped a distinctly American sound. On May 14, the Orchestra of St. Luke's (@oslmusic ) and baritone Joseph Parrish bring that story to Flushing Town Hall in a program that weaves Burleigh's original songs and spiritual arrangements with Dvořák's Violin Sonatina in G Major — music born from the same conversation, performed together in Queens. Flushing Town Hall is proud to be the Queens stop on the Five Boroughs Music Festival's (@5ivebmf ) season finale tour, with OSL performing the same program across all five NYC boroughs. Free admission. RSVP now via link in bio!
