Many of us who are still in the Service and many of us who have retired out, often think we know/knew all we needed to be good firefighters. Yet, there are innovations we have now, that we didn't even have just TEN years ago!
In this podcast, our guest, FF EJ Henninger joins us with the topic, "You Might Not Know..."
EJ is the Mission Leader for “Building Firefighter Development,” a grassroots effort to educate the fire service about building systems from an engineering perspective.
He has more than 25 years of professional experience in the engineering and design of fire protection, plumbing, and process systems for numerous types of occupancies.
For 15 years, EJ has served as a volunteer firefighter with a rural fire and rescue company, holding various positions. He is a proponent of the fight against firefighter cancer!
EJ is happily married to his beautiful wife for more than 25 years and has three wonderful sons.
So come around, sit around super-powerful 1000Watt light in the empty bay and see what this is all about!

MAKING A DIFFERENCE IS A CHOICE. Like #volunteer #firefighters in a community, @familytotherescue brings caring people to the aid of individuals having hardship. When the tone drops, #firstresponders know it may be someone's worst day. @rescuingfamilies , the families they assist are sometimes living their worst day, everyday. As we engage with an open hand of help, a positive example is being set in guiding the next generation. DO WHAT WE CAN, WHEN WE CAN, BECAUSE WE CAN.

How you behave, think and perform on the fire ground is crucial for firefighter and fire ground success. The mindset of prepared readiness is also perishable and should be maintained throughout your shift and further throughout your career. How are you showing up?

Dear Listeners and Supporters,
We hope this message finds you well.
Today, we’re excited to share some meaningful news with all of you. As with any journey, success often comes with the help of others—and one of those key individuals for us has been Steve Greene.
Since the early days of The Firehouse Tribune, Steve has been an invaluable supporter—helping us edit content, brainstorming ideas, and even connecting us with amazing guests. Though his active service as a firefighter was cut short in 1985, Steve’s passion for the fire service never wavered. He’s continued to support departments across the country, always finding ways to give back.
In 2016, Steve was encouraged to use his background in radio and A/V to launch the 5-Alarm Task Force Podcast. Over the years, his show has featured some of the fire service’s most respected voices, including the late, great Chief Alan Brunacini and Chief Bobby Halton. Beyond insightful content, the 5-Alarm Task Force has also raised funds to support families affected by line-of-duty injuries and deaths—a true testament to Steve’s heart and mission.
As time has gone on, Steve has faced health challenges that have made it difficult to continue producing the podcast on his own. Knowing how much the show means to him—and how much he’s given to our community—we at The Firehouse Tribune are honored to step in and help carry the torch.
As Steve prepares for Season 10 of the 5-Alarm Task Force, our own podcast, Station Talk, will feature select crossover episodes to continue his legacy. This collaboration allows Steve to remain involved in what he loves while getting the rest and support he needs.
Steve has always been one of our biggest advocates, and this is the very least we can do to show our gratitude. We’re incredibly proud to help keep his vision alive and thriving.
Stay tuned—our already packed guest list continues to grow, and we’re excited to bring you more tips, tactics, techniques, and hopefully, some laughter along the way.
Thank you for your continued support—and as always:
Work hard. Stay safe. Live inspired.
With gratitude,
The Firehouse Tribune Editors and Contributors
