Inari Sámi, the language of Northern Finland, was on the brink of extinction.
Decades of Finnish assimilation policies suppressed Sámi languages in schools and public institutions. But Sami communities refused to let it disappear.
In the space of just one generation, the fluency of Inari Sámi has grown by 25%, with around 500 people now speaking the language. Journalist Saara-Maria Salonen @5aamari reports on the efforts the Inari Sámi community have made to keep their language alive.
