It was really cool to hear my work for choir, piano and flugelhorn, “The Beatitudes,” performed in New York City a few days ago!
Originally conceived for a larger choir, I was happy to hear that this work also works for a smaller vocal ensemble - in this case @4thwallnyc , conductedby @mochrisallen !
Paired with my song cycle “The Paper Lined Shack,” it is always fun to hear my music performed live in the city I now call home.

The Fourth Wall Ensemble for contemporary vocal music is set to present the East Coast premiere of “The Beatitudes” by Jeff Beal.
The evening will feature two works “The Paper Lined Shack” featuring soprano Zoe Allen, and “The Beatitudes.” Beal will perform on flugelhorn, sharing the stage with Fourth Wall Ensemble’s Artistic Director, Christopher Allen.
Beal is a five-time Emmy Award-winning composer known for his scores for TV shows including “House of Cards,” “Monk” and “Rome,” as well as films such as “Pollock” and “Blackfish.”
On May 1 at 7:30, we present Jeff Beal’s The Paper Lined Shack, a song cycle drawn from the diary of Beal’s great- grandmother, Della, and the struggle she faced raising a family in the early 20th century in rural Idaho. Join me as I bring Della’s story to life, with @mochrisallen at the piano, directed by @robertlongbottom9 . Second half of the evening features @jeffbealmusic ‘s Beatitudes with @4thwallnyc .
