A THROWBACCCCCKK, but still so powerful. @francisca_b.iv hosted a week‑long session over the Christmas break rooted in empowerment, resilience, and young Black boys taking full accountability for their own success. The impact from that week still hits. When I was in the classroom, the data was always loud about why young Black boys were labeled “unsuccessful,” often pointing to reading levels that didn’t match their grade. Even though I taught math and science, I built a 25‑minute reading block into every single day for all of my students. 25 minutes × 5 days = 125 minutes a week dedicated to literacy, confidence, and expanding what they believed was possible. When we create intentional opportunities for our students to thrive, THEY DO. AND city stakeholders met them with presence, support, and a willingness to listen - the energy was special. Now the work begins!
