A culture park in Staten Island, @snugharborccbg is the rare place where nature, education, history, and the arts come together. We worked with the Snug Harbor team to develop brand strategy, brand architecture, tone of voice, and visual identity for the local icon–as joyful and full of discovery as the place itself. Over the past decade, 唐霜 @tangshuang  has been one of the most distinctive, perceptive, and intelligent voices in Chinese design criticism, so her recent elevation to the helm of @numerochina  promises an uncommonly piercing approach to fashion journalism. Given our admiration for her writing, we were honored to be invited to design the cover for her inaugural issue. To signal this shift in perspective, partners Michael Rock and 辛静 @jing_2x4_beijing designed a typography-only cover featuring her Editor’s Letter set against a field of fluorescent green, suggesting a digital, textual cacophony rooted in the tactile quality of ancient stone-inscription rubbings. In addition to the cover design, Michael Rock contributed a new essay – No Time Like the Present. Taking Tang Shuang’s letter as a departure, the text interrogates the impact of easy access to vast digital archives on design process. "Fashion is and has always been cannibalistic — gorging on its own history with the insatiable appetite of a monster that can ingest anything.” This voraciousness has been accelerated, like everything else, by digital tools that enable "curation at terminal velocity” where “every reference is equalized by the interface and submitted to the same rapacious present.” To read the article in Chinese or English, go to the links in our bio.

In designing the temporary facade for @prada ’s 5th Avenue store, we prioritized prototyping. The double-layer system required precise alignment across multiple scales to achieve the desired moiré effect. Alongside in-studio models, we built full-scale mockups in both Milan and New York to test the impact of light, shadow, and movement. In collaboration with our long-time partners at @prada , our Environments team designed a bespoke temporary scaffolding structure and skin for the Prada building at the corner of 5th Avenue and 56th Street. The meticulously detailed design using standard commercial pipe scaffolding elements reflects Prada’s long-standing interest in dualities: industrial/refined, functional/decorative, familiar/uncanny. A double-layer, semi-transparent scrim wrapper creates a moiré effect that constantly shifts with changing light, weather, and viewing angle. As the sky darkens, a lighting grid aligned with the scaffold seems to dissolve the outer layer, revealing the structural framework beneath. Rather than hiding construction and maintenance, we leverage them as an opportunity to express Prada’s unique aesthetic heritage. Through color, pattern, and moiré, the scaffold becomes an extension of the brand language rather than a screen; a branding of and in the structure of the city.  Photography by @bridgitbeyer Scaffolding and Facade Fabric Contractor: @springscaffoldingnyc Consultation: @atelier_athem Fabric printing: @britteninc Lighting design: @tmtm_designs 2x4 Team:
