The piece was nearly a year in the making and 5 months of fabrication with over 500 volunteers. It was one of the tallest and most vibrant pieces on playa, directly in line with The Man and The Temple on the edge of deep playa in “the vortex.”
The kinetic and vibrant work brought communities together to marvel and interact, attracted DJ performances from Deborah De Luca, Be Sven, hosted weddings and special fire shows, and lived many more lives that we’ll never know about.

A recap of some of the work that went into lighting up the @1000handsart tapestry! 🔌👾🌌💻 Many hours spent designing, sourcing, connecting, programming, testing, zip tying lights. So glad I got to work with @psynack who is an electronics / networking powerhouse, @ezekeal who setup web UI functionality and helped with electronics, and the whole @1000handsart team. We used a bunch of addressable LEDs and controllers, networked with a laptop running touchdesigner. Everything was completely solar powered. It was a lot of hard work, but also an inspiring outcome at @burningman that expands what feels possible. #ledart #burningman2023 #largescaleart #interactiveart #touchdesigner
