📢 Our 2025 Annual Report is out!
Through stories from across the country, we highlight the people behind the work — from community-based workers and youth development practitioners to innovators and leaders responding to real challenges in their communities.
These stories show what this looks like in practice, from early detection of malnutrition and supporting early childhood development, to strengthening community-based care, addressing the drivers of violence and opening pathways to opportunity for young people.
Here are some of the stories you can read in our report:
1. In the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal, @zero2fivetrust supports caregivers and young children with better nutrition, health and early learning, helping to prevent stunting and improve early outcomes.
2. In Cape Town, @heroes_academysa pairs boys with positive male mentors, helping them navigate challenges, build values and contribute to safer communities.
3. In Durban, @asiye_etafuleni is testing what accessible and affordable childcare looks like in informal trading spaces, supporting traders and caregivers through practical, community-based solutions.
4. In Riversdale, @wethinkcode_ and South Cape Technical and Vocational Education and Training College have partnered to train young people from low-income communities in software development, opening new pathways to employment.

How do you know if a young child is chronically malnourished? The tell-tale sign is stunting among children under the age of 5, when they are too short for their age. Stunting is associated with poor brain development which has life-long consequences for a child’s ability to learn and do well at school and beyond.
Early detection of stunting is critical to prevent lifelong issues which is why children must be measured and monitored regularly.
This is what the Khula Nathi project, an initiative of @zero2fivetrust , is doing in rural parts of the Eastern Cape, operating out of early learning programmes.
The project has trained a cohort of champions for growth monitoring to detect malnutrition in young children and refer serious cases to local clinics where they can get food supplements, like fortified porridge or peanut-based therapeutic food products.

Our Nation Builder team has had a truly inspiring few days in KwaZulu-Natal, building on our collaborations across the province and connecting with incredible organisations — from corporate investors to nonprofits. It’s been so encouraging to witness like-minded individuals and organisations coming together to drive collective and sustainable impact!
During our Midday Mingle, we had the privilege of welcoming 29 people from 16 different organisations. And it couldn’t have happened at a better time. There’s a strong need for a space where these changemakers can connect and collaborate for collective impact. We introduced Nation Builder’s approach, shared insights, and opened the floor for everyone to highlight their needs and offerings. The question, “Who would you want to connect with?” led to some incredible networking moments.
