They each receive a large box filled with well chosen, age appropriate toys and a super practical hanging library for early reading and storytelling. This toolkit provides resources to our early childhood educators and enables them to choose effective teaching techniques to promote young children's overall development within the daily programme provided and within the DBE’s early learning guidelines.
Biblionef assists with categorizing the resources according to the 5 main domains of early learning and development including approaches to learning, social and emotional development, language and literacy, cognition, and perceptual, motor, and physical development. The ECD practitioners can use these resources according to recommended activities and we offer on-site mentoring on a monthly basis for those who need assistance.

Khula Nathi: Growth Monitoring in ECD Centres 🌱
As part of strengthening ECD centres as community nutrition hubs, our field team recently completed baseline growth monitoring for sample groups of children at selected centres in the uMgungundlovu District.
With the support of registered dietitian Helen Donkin, measurements were taken for well over 500 children under five, including height-for-age, weight, and MUAC (mid-upper arm circumference).
A key goal of this work is the early detection and referral of malnutrition, using simple, easy-to-use anthropometric tools within ECD centres.

Last week we completed our first ELOM assessments with 108 children. The Early Learning Outcomes Measure (ELOM) helps determine whether children are developmentally on track for their age and whether ECD programmes are effectively preparing them for school.
Our assessors Lebo and Sne were guided by professional assessors to ensure quality assessments and continued learning throughout the process. We look forward to sharing the outcome report in due course.

When schools close for the year, many of KwaZulu-Natal’s youngest children face weeks without reliable meals during what should be a joyful summer holiday. Last year, Zero2Five Trust’s Holiday Club Programme stepped in to fill this gap, providing nutritious meals, safe supervision, and fun, educational activities for vulnerable children.
Nearly five million children under six in South Africa live in households that cannot meet basic needs, with almost half of KZN’s children facing severe food insecurity. Without support, this can lead to malnutrition, stunting, and developmental delays.
In 2025/26, our Holiday Programme:
✔️ Reached over 530 children
✔️ Supported 4,000 families with nutrition
✔️ Delivered Lovebox gifts to 450 children
✔️ Provided safe, supervised play and learning
Because when children are fed, safe, and supported - they can simply be children. 💙
