Designing with Country sits at the heart of the Canberra Institute of Technology Woden Campus.
Developed through ongoing collaboration and conversations with local First Nations Community members, the project is grounded in connection to place, culture, and story.
Spatial relationships, textures, and colours evoke elements of Country, including the ridges and flora of the nearby Brindabella Ranges, the Yankee Hat Rock Art site, local river networks, and Sky Country. The façade expresses the idea of “walking the ridgeline”, while interiors guide occupants on a journey from Deep Country to Sky Country through carefully considered colour palettes and wayfinding elements. At the highest level, an oculus features the silhouette of a mulleun (wedge-tailed eagle), an important cultural symbol.
From the built form to the interior experience, the campus weaves Country throughout, creating a culturally safe and welcoming place to gather, learn, and share stories.
Yerrabingin’s CEO, Christian Hampson, joins @graypuksand ACT Lead Partner, Amanda Fyfe, to share how listening to Country shaped the vision and spirit of this landmark campus.

We’re proud to see the Sydney Harbour Bridge Cycleway Ramp gaining global recognition with its recent feature on Dezeen.
Yerrabingin was honoured to contribute First Nations design thinking and cultural narratives to this significant project. Working alongside a broader project team, our focus was embedding Country into the experience — shaping infrastructure that is not only functional, but culturally grounded and community-focused.
As highlighted in the article, this project goes beyond access. It rethinks movement and connection across the city in a way that reflects place, people and story. A big congratulations to artists @jasonwing1 and @maddisongibbswing , whose public artwork brings depth and cultural resonance to the ramp, reinforcing the Sydney Harbour Bridge as a significant cultural conjunction point.

Last week, the Yerrabingin team visited the New Bankstown Hospital site for a Walk in Country as part of our ongoing collaboration with Health Infrastructure NSW.
Site visits like this are central to how we work. Spending time on Country before the design process begins allows us to understand the place, the systems and the connections at work. We look at the ecology, the hydrology, and the specific qualities of Country to begin to shape our designing with Country response.
By listening first, we ensure our approach is grounded, responsive, and led by Country. Learn more about our Designing with Country approach at .au.

We’re proud to have contributed to the UNSW Sydney Health Translation Hub project within the Randwick Health & Innovation Precinct as part of a specialist design team alongside @Architectus , @Plenarygroup , @ASPECTStudios and @Hansen_Yuncken .
Our role focused on weaving cultural narratives and Indigenous knowledge systems into the built form, landscape and public realm through planting, paving, furniture and spatial design. Through our Country focused design approach, we’ve helped shape an environment that is inclusive, culturally grounded, and connected to place, community and care.
This work ensures the project is both functional and deeply rooted in culture, story and place We're happy to see this vision brought to life and to have played a part in shaping its story.

Marrickville Timberyards has received SSDA consent for the largest build-to-rent project in NSW to date. Yerrabingin provided Designing with Country services for the project, working closely with Rent to Live Co and the design team including @turnerstudio , @architecture__and , @tribestudio_ , @aileen_sage and @arcadialandarch .
Through a Walk on Country and collaborative design workshops, our Designing with Country process guided the integration of a deep understanding of Country with Marrickville’s contemporary creative life. The design recognises the cultural and ecological importance of water and the interconnected relationships between human and more-than-human kin, while drawing on contemporary First Nations culture, resilience, and Marrickville’s identity as a place of industry and creativity.
The result is community-focused housing for renters, embedded within a vibrant public domain that supports both residents and the broader community.

Where colour leads, culture follows – step inside Intuit’s new Sydney workplace, designed not just for productivity but for belonging.
Collaborating with the global technology leader, we used colour, light and greenery to create an environment that gives employees something they can’t get at home – the spark that comes from being part of something larger.
Flooded with daylight and surrounded by native planting developed with @Yerrabingin , the workplace is enriched by @ArtPharmacy ’s APAC‑driven art strategy, which weaves regional identity through its meeting rooms and shared spaces.
Rather than a traditional office, Intuit’s new headquarters is a village for those who work there – a series of spaces that foster connection, wellbeing and innovation.

At the end of the year, we take time to celebrate together and reflect on what we have learnt and achieved with Community, clients and collaborators.
In 2025, we collaborated on over fifty projects with our designing with Country approach centering design on the needs of Country and all kin, to support forming deeper connections to the places we live, work and visit.
Guided by First Nations knowledge and grounded in caring for Country we delivered more than 150 workshops, including over 50 sessions with First Nations community partners.
This year we also welcomed four new team members, each bringing valuable skills, experience and care to our work.

We are excited to announce that our Principal, Jess Hodge, has been accepted as a member of the NSW Government’s State Design Review Panel (SDRP).
The panel supports GANSW in improving the quality of design outcomes across the state, by providing independent advice on a range of project types.
“I am honoured to have been selected for this panel and to sit alongside Sydney’s greatest design thinkers. I am excited to not only be a champion for good design through urban design and landscape architecture, but to also share the skills I have gained at Yerrabingin to listen, consider and respond to Country as central to the design process.” – Jess Hodge.
