When my son Grey was conceived, complacency stopped being an option. I became deeply reflective about the values and emotional tools he would inherit from me. This project helped me process what partnership, fatherhood, and legacy mean to me. Coparenting Storey follows two ex-lovers who naively make the most significant decision of their lives: to have a child together. It’s a story about partnership, not romance. It’s about two people trying to grow a child, a household, and maybe themselves, all while navigating old wounds, nosy-ass parents, and the exhaustion of showing up daily for someone you’re kind of (definitely) still in love with. This story is timely because it doesn’t present a fantasy; it offers a functioning version of love. One that’s clumsy and still deeply committed. In a world that’s rapidly redefining what “family” means, Coparenting Storey feels like a mirror and a blueprint.

I wanted to talk with his @ybrandn because his story, @seaweedsnacksfilm , resonated so much with me by approaching parenthood in a relatable (and funny) way. And it ended up being there was so much more to this — he’s dedicated his whole life to empowering young people and making them feel seen through @ghettofilmschool and other endeavors.
