I’ve always had Sundance Film Festival in the back of my mind - as a goal, as something to aspire to. I remember being in undergraduate at Ohio state, on a Pell Grant, looking at the price tag of the student trip fee. It felt like a far off reality. When I heard about the last year in Park City, it sparked something in me. “Didn’t you always want to do this? Do it!”
Not long after the decision to pursue, I found out some dear friends would be premiering their films there, including some of our very own
@prooffilmfestival alumni
@locanilla @lizziesarge @originalheller @cyprianfilms who I am SO proud of. And also Beth de Araújo (instagramless!) who I got to know when I programmed her first feature “Soft & Quiet” at
@am_cinematheque and have been friends ever since. Here she is winning both the Audience Award and US Dramatic Jury Prize with her second film that stopped me dead in my tracks and made me sob, Josephine.
I’m so grateful this was my first Sundance. I’ll never forget it. Thank you to
@ffalliance ! So long Park City (with your TERRIBLE martinis), and hello future Boulder editions 👋🏾
