FENCED avoinna tämän viikon loppuun asti. Tule tutustumaan! (In English below) FENCED tarkastelee metalliverkkoaitoja keinotekoisina kontrollin ja erottelun rakenteina. Analogisen valokuvauksen, syanotypioiden ja keraamisten reliefien kautta näyttely jäljittää reikiä, repeämiä ja korjauksia — paljastaen, kuinka rajat muotoutuvat, purkautuvat ja muovautuvat uudelleen ajan myötä. FENCED 5.1.-18.1.2026 alexandra stroganova Galleria Toinen Silmä Sturenkatu 43–45, Helsinki ti–la klo 12–18 ja su klo 12–16 *** FENCED is open until the end of this week. Come and check it out! FENCED looks at wire fences as artificial structures of control and division. Through analogue photography, cyanotypes, and ceramic reliefs, the exhibition traces holes, ruptures, and repairs — revealing how boundaries are shaped, undone, and reworked over time. Galleria Toinen Silmä Sturenkatu 43–45, Helsinki ti–la klo 12–18 ja su klo 12–16 *** FENCED 5.1.-18.1.2026 Alexandra Stroganova The exhibition presents analogue photographs printed by the artist in the darkroom, alongside direct cyanotype prints and glazed ceramic works. FENCED approaches fences as everyday aesthetic objects that divide space, mark ownership, and bear traces of interference—holes, tears, and repairs. It further understands the fence as a structure that enforces divisions between inside and outside, ownership and access, while revealing how such boundaries are inherently fragile and continually undone by time and material processes. FENCED Alexandra Stroganova Grown from repeated encounters with a fenced, mostly empty parking lot in Vallila, FENCED reflects on the fragility, temporality, and permeability of fences as quiet agents of control and division. Through analogue photography, cyanotypes, and ceramics, the exhibition explores how ordinary structures regulate movement, mark ownership, and enforce exclusion, while slowly disintegrating. Welcome to the opening on 5 January 2026, 18-21 The exhibition will be on display 5.1.-18.1.2026 Tue-Sat 12-18 and Sun 12-16 Galleria Toinen Silmä Sturenkatu 43-45, Helsinki *** FENCED Alexandra Stroganova Toistuvista kohtaamisista aidatun, pääosin tyhjillään olevan pysäköintialueen kanssa Vallilassa syntynyt FENCED pohtii aitojen haurautta, ajallisuutta ja läpäisevyyttä hiljaisina kontrollin ja erottelun välineinä.

Artist residency, Split 🍃 On 15th of November, Alexandra Stroganova led a gentle, immersive workshop exploring our shared relationship with water. Together they walked in silence through Marjan, listened closely to the sea, and translated those sensory moments into cyanotypes, drawings, and written reflections. The session ended with a quiet tea ritual, giving space for everyone’s thoughts to settle. Alexandra’s practice invites everyone to slow down, to care, and to see the more-than-human world as a collaborator rather than a backdrop. Thank you @xstrox 💙 Residency at @culturehubcroatia #artistresidency #creativeeurope #pmpartists

𝑻𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑪𝒂𝒓𝒆 – 𝑺𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑯𝒚𝒅𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒔 Our artist in residence Alexandra Stroganova led a beautiful workshop on Saturday - we walked, we listened, we meditated, collected, shared and created beautiful cyanotypes 🌊 “To say “we are all bodies of water” is to remind us that as human bodies, we are mostly made of water. This puts us into a reciprocal and material relationship with our environment. We are made up of what is out there. What is out there makes us. Hopefully this helps dismantle the idea of humans as separate from nature. What kind of ethics would we cultivate if we paid attention to our watery origins? How could we reimagine kinship and connection if we recalled this inescapable network of animals, plants, rivers, clouds, and oceans, but also sewage plants, tailings ponds and dirty dishwater, that circulate through us?" - Astrida Neimanis Many thanks to Alexandra, all the participants and special thanks to the sea 💙 @professional_media_presence #artistinresidence #artistledworkshop #hydrofeminism #hydrocommons #cyanotypeprints

[WORKSHOP] 𝑻𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒔 𝒐𝒇 𝑪𝒂𝒓𝒆 – 𝑺𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑯𝒚𝒅𝒓𝒐𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒐𝒏𝒔 with artist Alexandra Stroganova 15.11. 11:00-14:00 Meeting in Prostor at 11:00 💧The workshop invites participants to experience water as something shared across human and non-human and to reflect on care practices through multisensory engagement with nature and the sea. 🌊 Participants move through phases of embodied connection, attentive observation, and artistic response. We will take a multisensory silent walk in Marjan Park to the sea shore where we will do simple exercises and discuss the notion of “hydrocommons”. The participants will be introduced to the concepts of hydrocommons inspired by Astrida Neimanis and get to translate sensory and emotional impressions into a material form. 🌿If the weather conditions allow, they will also learn to make cyanotypes or anthotype, based on the natural materials collected during the workshop. Alternatively, we will focus on drawing and writing. 🍵🍃 We will finalize with a communal tea ritual using local herbs, sharing thoughts and reflections. Language of the workshop: English The workshop is open for all adults. No previous knowledge or artistic background is needed. Materials are included. Participation is free of charge, spaces are limited. ➡️ Reserve your spot by sending email to [email protected] #workshop #hydrofeminism #artistledworkshop #cyanotypes

Thank you @ivana__papic for a magnificent workshop full of exploration, insights, creativity, and inspiration. Through collective exercises in nature, we explored notions of identity and authenticity in artistic practice, delving into both inner and outer poetic landscapes. We observed, pondered, paid attention, experimented, expressed, and created. • The workshop was part of @professional_media_presence for artists project’s final workshop week hosted by @culturehubcroatia in Split. • Photos: 1. Day 1. What is nature? Observation, reflection and poetical co-creation with plants. 2. The ode I wrote to Stachys Bizantina 3. Day 2. Exploring. (Photo by @mateo_pancurak ) 4. Reflecting. 5. What is inner and outer landscape? 6. Marjan forest after the storm - reflecting on the outer and inner storms. 7. Site-specific co-creation in smaller groups with other participants and environment. (Photo by @lottofsocial ) 8. Day 3. What is authenticity? 9. Final act - What message do we want to send to the world? A land art co-created with the whole group and with nature. Happy to share that my photograph won Bronze placement in Analog Sparks @analog_sparks Open Call 2025! THE PORTAL Halfway through my 82 km hike along the Karhunkierros path in Oulanka National Park, Finnish Lapland, I stumbled upon a tree bent into the shape of a perfect triangle. Framed by shadows and light, the tree resembled a mythical portal, a silent threshold to other realms. Is the boreal forest giving some sign? Could this be a doorway into the unknown? The absence of colour deepens the sense of mystery, turning the scene into a dreamscape where nature seems to hint at other realms. /winner/zoom.php?eid=3-6872-25

Five years ago, in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, I graduated with a Master of Arts degree from Aalto University. I received my diploma by post and didn’t even take part in the Zoom graduation ceremony, as I had to be at work. It felt very sad that such an important life milestone wasn’t properly celebrated. This year, I was invited to take part in the Conferment Ceremony of Masters and Doctors of Aalto University’s Department of Art, which takes place only once every six years — and I happily accepted the invitation. A huge thank you to all the organisers, the Conferrer of Degrees, my fellow Master’s graduates, as well as the Doctors and Honorary Doctors. Thank you to everyone who attended and to all those working behind the scenes to make this event happen. I finally feel that I have truly and properly graduated — even if this celebration came five years after the fact. Hooray! 🎉 13.06.2025

This May, I had the honour of being part of the Price of Peace group exhibition, organised by @hiaafinland at Lauttasaari Church, where I presented my work Spectre of Vyborg — a black and white analogue photograph taken in Vyborg in 2018 and printed this year, 2025, on matte silver gelatin paper at @finnishdarkroom . I’m deeply grateful to everyone who made this exhibition possible, and especially to @katrikrohnlassila , whose guidance was instrumental in bringing this print to life. Here’s a glimpse of the exhibition opening on May 9th. Thank you @photoinphoto.fi for the pictures!
