Life update, astrologically, on my 2.5-year Saturn return in Aries journey — and so are two of my best friends. How exciting 😌 I’ve been learning many things lately. Learning how to play video games. Learning how to read charts, and becoming eager to question what lies outside the usual boxes. Learning from my favourite book at the moment, Postcolonial Astrology by Alice Sparkly Kat. Learning how to recognise uncomfortable situations. Learning how to make art more grounded, slower but powerful. Learning how to be aggressive, how to be angry. Learning how to reconnect with old and new friends, and with emotions from the past that still linger in my chest. And learning how to conquer my own fear. Still not very good at most of these, but let’s see 🐎maybe don’t need to be… Also, I’ve stopped using my previous English name “Iris.” I do like that name, but I’d like you to learn how to say Xinyu. 🙇 appreciated x And I’m a maned lioness 🦁

I often realise the real reasons for what I do only much later. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐈’𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 is one of the pieces included in my WIP artist zine 𝐌𝐢𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞. It reflects on my early practice of developing film in my bedroom during my student years. Many of the images I made carried a strong element of mist — hazy, blurred, suspended. I didn’t know why at the time; I was simply drawn to things that were indistinct, shifting, half-seen. After my trip home earlier this year, I completed a short film titled 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐃𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞𝐬. Together with this zine, it represents my ongoing attempt to understand mist — through both words and images. I began to notice how the mist mirrors the body, and how it also echoes the presence of my loved ones: soft, elusive, always in motion. the mist in my hometown still exists inside of my body somewhere. When I look back on those early works I made after moving to the UK four years ago, I see that what began as an awkward negotiation between my body, and my creative posture in an unfamiliar country has evolved into an exploration of how to expand, to take up space, and ultimately to re-script the past. The duvet in Things I’ve Done Under the Covers functions as a threshold between the personal and the public — a liminal zone that contains desire, memory, and trauma, while simultaneously asserting itself as a rebellious space of creation. It is also where the embodied mist first appears, a perfect safe space when I was little. 𝐓𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐈’𝐯𝐞 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬 will be exhibited as part of the group exhibition ‘White Noise of Belonging: Ripples of Registration’ , Curated by: Queer Patch @queerpatch and the Wishing Fountain Project @the.wishing.fountain.project (booking required, link in their bios!) 3rd Nov - 14th Nov 2025, The Exchange, Bush House North East Wing, Aldwych, WC2B 4BG

After giving my new artist film Vᴇʀᴛɪᴄᴀʟ Dɪᴀʟᴏɢᴜᴇs its final touch this Aug (finally! and forever grateful for all the support ❤️‍🩹), I began working on its parallel zine, Mɪsᴛ Mᴏɴᴏʟᴏɢᴜᴇ. I’ll share them properly once they’re both ready to be watched and read. just feel like yapping here before this long summer officially ends 🙇🏻‍♂️ This slow, quiet process has given me space to really look in the mirror, sit with old traumas, therapeutic but crucial tho. (Yes, I know I’m cringe sometimes.) Last night I wrote a story about a blood plum blossom—sth I’d love to grow, whether as a longer piece of writing or maybe even as an actual tree someday 🌳. The zine will include: my own writings, contributions from ppl I know and love, and B&W film photos I shot, clumsily processed in my bedroom four yrs ago. I’m gathering fragments I thought were lost, drawing a map that helps me walk through the past. Hopefully it resonates with others, too. And some funny faces in this post. 🐥
