I designed it with not much patience in a cafe near the river, and somehow it became the most colourful thing I’ve ever made for myself, which is bit ironic, because I mostly wear black.
Every single day cycling to work, I remind myself I’m always stronger than I think, and that help me chase things with no fear, cause this time is different, this time I will be better. (That’s basically what the show wants to tell)

I’ve been working on this for quite some time now. Re-writing and testing materials since the first show. So whether you’ve seen bits before or not, there will always be something new to feel, cause this time is always different. 👀
‘This Time is Different’ is a one-hour solo comedy show blending stand-up, live music, storytelling, confessions, and a few surprises which I can’t tell you yet. 🤫
Things I will be talking about:
love, dating, shame, BPD, queerness, family traumas, how Chinese I am, emotional patterns I keep repeating, leftover food I microwaved, a bus goes on diversion, and a shampoo bottle hits my toes while showering with my eyes closed.
It is a sincere, funny, playful and slightly awkward show, carrying a quiet sense of hope.

I’ll be showing a condensed version of Unremarkable Zhou (2022) with @queereast@ifsplashasyourwhistle_ this year, which honestly feels like a dream come true✨
What makes it even more special is that I’ll also be doing a short stand-up set at the end of the screening night. 👀 And somehow, something I said in the film back then about “I wanted to be a comedian”, is actually becoming real after all those years. 🥹

I went through a lot this past Snake year (if you know, you know). But on the positive side, it was a year of real change:
I stepped onto a path I’ve always known I’m good at;
I let go of bad habits and began to understand my emotional patterns;
I took responsibility for my mistakes and learned to protect myself, to never let anything hurt me in the same way again;
I stopped trying to prove anything to anyone and I am grateful for what I have;
I deserve all good things and I am capable of having it all;
I can finally see that I am enough.
Honestly, despite all the twists and turns, I’ve never felt this free before.
And I believe this year will unfold in even more beautiful ways. May all my loved ones see their wishes come true.

Comedy was never a sudden idea for me. Along this journey, although I’ve explored many different ways to express, I think humour has always been there. Whether in my photos or my music, they all share the same qualities: honest, awkward, and funny. And I guess that’s just who I am.
Comedy is the only place where I feel safe. It’s where everything I’m interested in gathers and begins to make sense. At the end of the day, maybe I just want someone like me, with all these emotions, to feel understood. I want to be happy. And I hope that through the stories I tell, you might find a small piece of yourself too:)
