OTD 20 years ago I started a run of 5 nights opening for @hardfiofficial at Brixton Academy where I put together a 30 minute set on 4 decks which went from The Fugees to The Style Council taking in reggae, hip hop, acid house, b-more, post-punk, synth pop etc etc along the way

30 years today since @bustarhymes released Woo Hah! so I’ve dug out Space by Galt McDermott which Busta and @rashad_ringo_smith ingeniously looped up for the beat.
It’s no big secret now, but not so many people know that Galt recorded Space for the soundtrack to Woman Is Sweeter, a documentary about Yves Saint Laurent by artist-filmmaker-photographer @martinebarrat which didn’t come out after the guy funding it objected to a scene featuring Yves emerging naked from the sea. What a prude.
I have a piece about it in the works, so keep ‘em peeled.

Even though I look pretty moody here, I spent a fabulous 30 mins mixing up mostly percussion-heavy records at The White Bear last night. Looks like @si_cheeba snapped this as I was attempting to mix Arkade Funk by Tilt (Trouble Funk’s brief electro guise) into a bit of Konk Party. Neither of which are available on here, so I’ve included a bit of Har You Percussion Group which has been a mainstay in my record box since my first gig over 3 decades ago.

I’ve been banging on about the debut 7” by @therealmusicalyouth for many years now, from their early incarnation when former Technique Freddie Waite led the group via the music workshop he ran in Birmingham at the turn of the 80s.
I’ve often wondered if there were any more recordings stored away from this period, and now I need wonder no more because @petepaphides has tracked them down for a release on his fantastic Needle Mythology label.
Here’s the test pressing sounding hot on my old Dansette beneath my copy of the Political/Generals 7”. Keep your eye out for the album this coming June.
