What could freelancing look like if you never had to think about taxes? About putting aside an arbitrary 30-40% of your income, googling ‘should I be an LLC,’ and manually adding quarterly due dates to your calendar? It would look like WorkMade. When we began our work with WorkMade, we quickly landed on the idea of ‘Forget your taxes, forever.’ Because… if you could forget about the tax headaches, a lot more people would freelance. From developing the visual and verbal world to leading the photographic expression of what this ease could look like – in contrast to the stern, studied visuals of the broader financial category, we landed on an approach that was vibrant, fun, and showed the possibility that being your own boss can present. A big thank you to the team for pulling this together, and a full case study to come. Take the damn break. 🤸🏻‍♀️ Early into my journey as a founder I felt a lot of guilt around taking a break. That it made me less than the people around me to take a damn day off. And then life happened. I got burnt out. Then I got long Covid. I’m grateful that we’re having a conversation around burnout and quitting and cultivating space for ourselves as people. A big thing I’ve been working on is if not work… then what. Curiosity and expansion are two of my big values. And being behind my laptop doesn’t create space for curiosity nor does it mean my life is expanding in size. This year, I built breaks into the BLANK calendar. From a spring break to a summer break to time in the fall and winter. Because we all show up better when we create space for ourselves to be. All of that is to say: yeah, we’re gonna be OOO 6/30-7/9. 🌟
