We are very excited for this year's @suidoosterfees_sof Our founder and Artistic Director @carin.bester is the Curator of the Visual Arts programme Komvandaan: Where nature remembers your name The Suidoosterfees visual arts programme for 2026 connects with this year’s theme, Home, through Komvandaan: Where nature remembers your name. With this, we invite festivalgoers to discover how nature holds our stories and origins like a place that has always known you and always will, no matter how long you’ve been away. Across the festival grounds you’ll find exhibitions and performance art that play with organic textures, natural materials and elements drawn from the landscape. Artists share their own ways of thinking about heritage, ecology and that deep sense of belonging we all seek. In a country like South Africa, where ‘home’ carries so many layers of history, change and healing, Komvandaan reminds us how strongly the earth holds our stories. Our roots are never lost – they live on in soil, water, wind and memory. Take a walk through this vibrant art space where personal and collective stories meet. Here you’re reminded: nature never forgets your name. 9 Exhibitions - Rooi-Land @yonela_makoba - Stillewe @francesv.h_mohair @siyabongafani @siyanda_ceramics - Chrysanthemum-voorskou - The National Chrysanthemum Society of South Africa - Fisherchild @thefisherchild @lodeffilms Urchin Studio - oos wes tuis bes, Group show curated by Anne-Ghrett Erasmus Coetzee - Komvandaan, Group show curated by Carin Bester - Dans lat die stof so staan @gary_frier_ @terencelovespainting @pierre.cloete a @figureof8dancetheatre project - Art on the Mountain a group show, project by @hermien_art - Cycles of Change - a student exhibition in collaboration with @wced_official 2 Performance Art Pieces - Maak Ons Tee, with @yonela_makoba - Haar pad huis toe, with @lynette_duplessis @michevanwyk in collaboration with @workingtitle_curation 1 Audience participating installation - Die betekenis van 'tuiste' See you 29 April - 3 May @artscapetheatre Made possible by @spierartstrust #sof26 #VisualArt #performanceArt #installation #artprogramme

We are incredibly excited to be part of this years My Body My Space Festival @fa_theatrecollaborative Plastic Not So Fantastic is an interactive live art piece that highlights the damaging impact of plastic pollution. The performance blends movement, sound design, and visual elements to create a visceral commentary on society’s dependence on single-use plastics. It calls attention to the urgent need for change, urging the audience to reconsider their own consumption habits and the broader societal dependency on plastic. The piece encourages reflection on individual responsibility and collective action to address plastic pollution. Conceptualised by our Artistic Director @carin.bester creative mentorship by @sjaka_s_septembir in collaboration with artists @lynette_duplessis & @joy__ofearth Initially made possible by @suidoosterfees_sof @kknkfees and @workingtitle_curation Live Art Weekends. Working Title LIVE ART WEEKENDS present - Soft Rebellion In a world marked by the noise of severe ongoing injustice, Soft Rebellion invites artists to explore tenderness as resistance. This Live Art Weekend calls for works that transmute harm, choosing beauty not as ornament, but as evidence of survival. We seek beauty that provokes. That unsettles. That asks: how do we see differently when we refuse to meet brutality with more brutality? This is softness not as weakness, but as strategy. Let it be seen. Let it be felt.
