CHORUSCORE OPEN STUDIO by @groupingandungroupingforever at @airrotefabrik Are you ready? Are you ready? IT'S CHORUS TIME! Hi! We’re Grouping and Ungrouping Forever, a South African performance-making duo made up of Naledi Majola and Andi Colombo. We’re in residency at Rote Fabrik with our work, Choruscore. And we’re doing a showing of our work in an open studio! WHEN: 20 March 2026 at 19:00. WHERE: Rote Fabrik Studio A1.010, Seestrasse 395, Zürich. FEE: None. RSVP: [email protected] LANGUAGE: This performance will be in English. Please note there will be a question and answer session after the showing. Please note that the venue is wheelchair accessible. ✨️ Hey, it's nice to hear from you. You know, you don't have to do it all alone.  In Choruscore, we perform movement, text, and song, drawing from adapted elements of theatrical chorus. Using elements like repetition, multi-voice text creation, and task-based performance, we try to create a chorus between the two of us and with the audience. What initiates a chorus? How do we build a group out of individuals? How do we prioritize the attempt at coming together while accommodating the possibility of failure? Choruscore asks how interdisciplinary performance can build community.  The open studio will also include contributions from various artists around Europe who we've been building a chorus with via the post.  See you soon!  Poster design by Ntobeko Ximba. (@phuphemini ) Special thanks to Rote Fabrik, The Swiss Arts Council and Pro Helvetia Johannesburg. The original iteration of Choruscore was made in partnership with The Live Art Arcade #prohelvetia_johannesburg #swissartscouncil #prohelvetia_residency

@groupingandungroupingforever (comprising @naledi_majola and @andiicolombo ) is currently in residency at @airrotefabrik with support from @prohelvetia_johannesburg and @prohelvetia , developing their project, Choruscore. It’s Chorus Time.” Choruscore is an interdisciplinary performance that draws from adapted elements of theatrical chorus, combining movement, text, and song.“Choruscore” is a term we coined for the essential ingredients of theatrical chorus, including repetition, multi-layering, multi-voice text creation, and the presence of multiple perspectives in one body. We are researching how to sustain cross-border collaboration, using the internet and multimedia performance as a vehicle, to create a chorus in real time, at times between us as a pair and at times between us and the audience. We believe the chorus is a model for inclusiveness and community. Using chorus, we aim to make a group out of individuals. This group does not always have to agree, but the attempt at connection is more important than achieving consensus. As the performance progresses, the audience becomes part of our chorus. This work was originally created as part of @liveartarcade and is being further developed with support from Pro Helvetia Johannesburg, the Swiss Arts Council and Rote Fabrik. #prohelvetia_johannesburg #swissartscouncil #prohelvetia_residency

We warmly welcome Naledi Majola and Andi Colmbo at Rote Fabrik, who will be with us from January until March. @naledi_majola @andiicolombo @groupingandungroupingforever Grouping and Ungrouping Forever is an artistic partnership comprising South African artists Andi Colombo and Naledi Majola, formed in 2019. They work in the discipline of performing arts. This partnership’s primary interest is in performance-making methodologies and so, their praxis consists of interdisciplinary explorations of performance-making, including freewriting, movement improvisations, and Viewpoints. Since 2022, they have been working from a distance with Andi based in Cape Town and Naledi in Berlin. “Are you ready? Are you ready? It’s Chorus Time.” “Choruscore” is a term we coined for the essential ingredients of theatrical chorus, including repetition, multi-layering, multi-voice text creation, and the presence of multiple perspectives in one body. We are researching how to sustain cross-border collaboration, using the internet, performance, and media art as a vehicle, and creating a virtual chorus. In this work, the chorus is the site of research. It is a sometimes unified, sometimes self-contradicting body made up of singular parts. How much can the internet hold our ideas and make space for collaboration, and when does it fail us? How can the chorus be a model for inclusiveness and how can we use it to reach the audience too, allowing them to join us in chorus? The residency is realised and supported by IG Rote Fabrik and the Swiss Arts Council, Pro Helvetia Johannesburg @prohelvetia_johannesburg Images 3 & 4: Ntobeko Ximba @phuphemini Images 2 & 5: Zivanai Matangi #prohelvetia_johannesburg, #SwissArtsCouncil #prohelvetia_residency #rotefabrikzürich #rotefabrik #artistinresidence
