Creativity has no boundaries, even in Comedy, your style says a lot about your character and the way you represent yourself to the stage, and the world. @sqmangcu and @phuphemini speak more about being comfortable with the silhouettes they wear as comedians.

I’m so proud of this little show. From the first run at Baxter theatre to National Arts Fest in Makhanda and then Woordfees in Stellenbosch! If you’ve managed to miss it, your last chance to laugh with me is almost here. I’m doing the last one for the year right in the middle of Cape Town: @kaapstad_toneelhuis

Are you ready for a pharadigm shift? Let’s pharambulate on the pharameters of pharanormal South Africans together!
What is iPhara? And why are South Africans so Pharanoid?
Cape Town comedian, Ntobeko Ximba answers these questions in his debut one man show, aptly named Pharanoid. The show “Pharanoid” debuted at Baxter Theatre in 2025, then travelled to the National Arts Fest in Makhanda and has just returned from a run at Toyota Woordfees 2025, in Stellenbosch.
Ntobeko won a Standard Bank Ovation Award at the National Arts Festival 2024, as part of the creative team behind 32 Lavender Close. In 2023 and 2024, he also performed as part of the trio stand up show Proudly Problematic. He has performed at the Cape Town Comedy Club (RIP), Cape Town Funny Festival, and as far afield as the famous Laugh Factory in Los Angeles, California.
Directed by the visionary theatre-maker Andi Colombo, Pharanoid is a culmination of Ntobeko’s six years of stand-up comedy, and a hilarious and tightly-orchestrated reflection on being South African, from a silly yet thoughtful comedian. Frankly, his work, as Cue Online put it, is “sure to make you fall in love with dark humour”.
Audience feedback:
“Commentary about social class in SA was spot on, and your ability to improvise super impressive.”
“Sharp, quirky, tender, gorgeous”
Ntobeko Ximba @phuphemini is a Creative Director at Studio X with over a decade of experience, working on some of South Africa’s most coveted and diverse brands. He began his career at Y&R Cape Town, winning the office’s first international awards and earning a Lürzer’s Archive cover for Land Rover. After stints at M&C Saatchi Abel, HelloFCB+, and Grey—where he helped launch Netflix’s first African originals and led Savanna Cider to become the #1 cider globally—he now oversees creative for Fanta and Sprite at WPP Studio X. ■ ■ ■ ■ Hear all about what’s currently inspiring Ntobeko at RECESS on Thursday, November 13th at 12 pm EST.
