Special thanks to @chipalfilmfest for welcoming @whokilledalexodeh to the Windy City. The audience was positive, curious and welcomed warmly @jasonosder , @helenaodeh , Norma Odeh and myself. Deeply grateful to @ninadajani and the whole team for hosting our film. It was an unforgettable evening. Everyone left with Alex Odeh’s story.
I enjoyed seeing colleagues and friends @thesaltyfeminista , @ghazalairshad , @i.abusharif , @hamza.ali.85 , @sulafazidani and others. We were fortunate to share the screen with the delightful short film Trip Ziggurat by @djinnisin and @laurensamblanet . Make sure to watch this lovely, meditative journey to a surprising structure of Arab Americana in the middle of the country.
There are limited tickets left for WHO KILLED ALEX ODEH? at @chipalfilmfest tomorrow. Come see the award-winning film and stay for a Q&A afterwards. Alex Odeh was a Palestinian-American organizer with @adcnational . His murder in 1985 is still unsolved. This documentary seeks to answer the question, why?
Today we remember and honor Iskander “Alex” Michel Odeh, born April 4, 1944, in Jifna, Palestine, a small town just north of Jerusalem.
A Palestinian Christian, U.S. citizen, and longtime Orange County resident, Alex Odeh dedicated his life to justice, civil rights, and peace. As the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee’s West Coast Regional Director, he worked tirelessly to challenge harmful stereotypes, confront biased media narratives, and advocate for Arab American communities.
He was also a poet, author of Whispers in Exile, and an educator who taught Middle East history and Arabic at Coastline College and Cal State Fullerton, using his voice to inform, connect, and inspire others.
As his prominence grew, so did his commitment to Palestine. Alex never lost sight of his roots, consistently working to bring the Palestinian perspective into American discourse while calling for lasting peace and justice.
Today, on his birthday, we remember his legacy, his words, and his unwavering belief in dignity for all.
WHO KILLED ALEX ODEH? Nearly 40 years later, the question still stands.
Directors Jason Osder and William Youmans bring this powerful story to the 25th annual Chicago Palestine Film Festival.

@whokilledalexodeh has been selected for the incredible @chipalfilmfest in April. We are honored to be featured among the best Palestinian films of the past year. Our film screens at 6 pm on April 18!
It’s nice to have your film described as “fascinating.” @screendaily review of @whokilledalexodeh says that @jasonosder and I “diligently pull together the threads of a complex case in which one incident opens a window on to a wider picture of Arab-Israeli relations.” That is a perfect description. But you will have to see for yourself when the film is out. Where, when and how are TBD.
